  • Splash Dash
Wild West Adventure Race: Participants of mainstream races often find themselves on a leisurely jog across flat, well-maintained roads—but not at the Wild West Adventure Race. Instead, they must traverse a course spanning four miles of rugged terrain dotted with impediments that challenge both endurance and strength. Races, which begin every half-hour from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., crisscross more than 10 obstacles that prompt racers to get down and dirty in trenches filled with ice-cold beer, mud, and smutty romance novels. Each participant will receive a race T-shirt, and top finishers across several age categories will be given individual and team awards. Onsite restrooms, changing rooms, and garden hoses facilitate cleanup before the Cinco de Mayo after party with barbecue, beer, and live music. Splash Dash: While runners often rely on high-tech fabrics and energy drinks to keep them cool and hydrated, the Splash Dash 5K takes a less sophisticated approach: manning the sidelines with a water-gun-toting Splash Squad. With awards for best times as well as best costume, runners can tackle the course with as much intensity or lightheartedness as they want, though all entrants must negotiate jets of water and water balloons before crossing the slip 'n' slide finish line. Meanwhile, a 1K fun-run course gives youngsters a chance to get soaked on the go without having to climb inside their parents' timing bibs.

  • Cotopaxi
Cotopaxi is an outdoor gear and apparel company, but it's actually much more than that. The natural world is the company's lifeblood, and they show their appreciation by giving back to charities and humanitarian efforts whenever possible. In fact, every piece of Cotopaxi gear is tied to a humanitarian cause in one of the poorest regions of the world. Another way Cotopaxi gives back is a bit less conventional, but quite effective in its own way. It's called the Questival, and it's unlike any other event in the world. The Cotopaxi Questival packs adventure, zaniness, and music into a 24-hour outdoor race event that benefits charity. Teams must choose from a list of quirky challenges that fall under categories such as hiking, service, camping, eating, and social media-ing; each successfully completed challenge wins cash for charity and humanitarian trips. A panel of judges that includes outdoor experts, environmental advocates, and business innovators is on hand to evaluate each team's performance and award them points based on their accomplishments.

  • Corner Store Country Run 5K
From serious runners to leisurely walkers and from individuals to families, the runners competing in the Corner Store Country Run 5K are encouraged to replace their shorts and sweat-wicking t-shirts with their "finest country duds," be they overalls or straw hats. At the finish line, they join in a post-race jamboree with free swag, live music, food, carnival games, face painting, a photo booth, and a beer garden. Chip timing is available for those with a competitive streak, and prizes will be awarded for the fastest folks in each class. Adults enjoy two free beer tickets, and every runner gets the joy of knowing that all proceeds benefits charitable organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

  • THE DJ DASH LLC
The DJ Dash may have two D's in its title, but the run's philosophy hinges on three: disco, dash, and dance. Runners sport disco-inspired outfits, or other ridiculous costumes?one past runner dressed as a bottle of mustard?while they dash, untimed, down the course. Along the way, they jam out to high-octane DJ sets peppered with throwback classics. Finally, at the finish line, the sundown event morphs from a run to a full-blown dance party, where patrons wave glowsticks and LED lights while a live DJ provides the beat.

  • Rogue Running
Most runners simply want to cross the finish line of their first marathon. Steve Sisson wanted Austin’s runners to set loftier goals, so he created Rogue Running and hired a staff of experienced and decorated coaches. Steve himself is tribute to what drive can accomplish: he was a three-time all-American cross-country and track runner at the University of Texas, and is currently the assistant coach for the women’s track-and-field team. His vision is to pass on that sense of discipline as well as advanced running techniques in a training program tailored according to how hard runners want to work, rather than how frequently they’ve spotted Jesse Owens in the supermarket. Using this method, the Rogue crew has readied runners for everything from 5K races and marathons to triathlons and trail runs. One of Steve’s ultimate goals is to create a thriving running community. To this end, Rogue Running has trained more than 10,000 runners of varying skill levels, and opened retail stores that outfit the community with athletic apparel and running shoes.
