There are two rules at The Color Run 5K races—wear a white shirt at the starting line, and finish plastered in color. Participants of all fitness levels weave through a leisurely course as volunteers lob colored powder at them, crossing the finish line doused in a rainbow of hues. Following the dash, color runners gather at the Finish Festival to celebrate their achievement with music, dancing, and even more massive color throws.
This year the minds behind The Color Run aren't just content to bring fun to every city they visit—they're bringing "a 5K vacation." The Tropicolor Tour puts an island spin on the race with scented color powders, inflated palm trees, a Rainbow Beach finish festival with sand and beach chairs, and, of course, colorful photo ops to brighten your day.
Mud, fire, high walls, and barbed wire. Those are certainly obstacles worthy of the Spartans of ancient history, but the modern Spartan wages a different kind of battle: one against the limits of his or her athletic abilities. Extreme athletes banded together to design Reebok Spartan Races' intense courses, resulting in races strewn with more than 20 signature obstacles. These natural and man-made tests challenge mind-body fitness, resilience, stamina, and strength, and are designed to leave participants both exhausted and exhilarated.
What started as a single race in 2010 has now grown to more than 130 races across 20 countries. Each is typically has two challenging length options, including a 3+ mile Sprint and an 8+ mile Super race.
Extreme athletes banded together to design Reebok Spartan Races' intense courses orchestrated over standardized distances, each strewn with natural and man-made obstacles to test mind-body fitness, resilience, stamina, and strength, designed to leave participants exhausted and exhilarated. In waves of about 200, runners collect smudges and stains as they perform box jumps, haul heavy sandbags, and juke feral linebackers. Depending on where in the world they're participating, the course may be as short as 3 miles or, for extremely practiced athletes, as long as a full marathon.
Live music permeates Summit Coffee’s 110-year-old building at least three nights per week, enhancing the space’s already artistic and eclectic vibe. Day and night, patrons ranging from neighbors and artists to professors and students settle inside the warm-and-welcoming café bar to throw back pints of IPA brews or piping-hot mugs of organic coffee and lattes. Friendly baristas and bar mates pair beverages with decadent sweets, including flaky croissants and giant slices of rich chocolate cake. As a neighborhood spot, Summit cherishes its community and is dedicated to giving back. It has raised more than $100,000 and a handful of Monopoly money over the years thanks to events such as its 8K race.
After graduating from college, two North Carolina natives started Charity Chase as an entertaining way to give back to their community. Envisioning an activity that would draw all sorts of people together, they put their energies into cultivating an abundant natural resource: mud. After testing their physical and mental fortitude at dirt-carved racecourses throughout the area, runners sprint across the finish line to find lively after parties. Crowds swap battle stories to the rousing tunes of live musicians, and costume contests grade the creative garb of contestants, spectators, and mud beasts disturbed from their subterranean homes by the ruckus. Benefiting groups include an assortment of charities and school organizations, depending on the event.
