  • Inabella's Sweet Events
By giving her daughter a one-of-a-kind birthday party, Inabella's Sweet Events owner Andreina Capdevila gave herself something even more important: a new career path. Andreina, a mother of two, began learning pastry and baking techniques to create homemade treats for her daughter's birthday, and after her creations became a hit, she went on to found Inabella's Sweet Events, which she lovingly named after her daughter. Seven days a week, the skilled pastry chef blends fresh ingredients to create her cake pops, then decorates each pop to complement any requested color scheme or theme, such as Hello Kitty or pirates in period-piece Victorian swimwear. Clients choose from a variety of cake flavors—including french vanilla, triple chocolate, dulce de leche, and fruit-infused strawberry—before Andreina dips the hand-formed balls in melted chocolate and tops them with Rice Krispies treats, chocolate chips, and sugar crystals. Each batch of petite treats is handcrafted the morning of delivery to ensure optimum freshness.

  • Miami Seaquarium
As they observe the vibrant exhibits of aquatic life inside the Miami Seaquarium, many guests don't realize that they are also walking through a movie set. In the onsite lagoon, bottlenose dolphins swim through waters once traversed by Flipper, who filmed several television episodes and films at the venue. This aspect of the Seaquarium—along with its many conservation efforts, educational programs, and shows—underscores a united commitment to wildlife consciousness. Special opportunities, such as the dolphin encounter, also send people on underwater treks through the reef display, letting them swim with seals or giving them the chance to shake a dolphin's hand. It's hard to pinpoint the biggest personality at Miami Seaquarium, but Lolita the killer whale—who performs daily alongside pacific white-sided dolphins—claims the title of heaviest, period. On the other end of the scale, macaws and cockatoos perch around the Tropical Wings section of the park, and endangered sea turtles lounge at Discovery Bay. Elsewhere, a watery playground and three-story ropes course keep legs from growing too wobbly after a trip to Shark Channel) or a smooch from a sea lion.

  • 786-Bartend
Technicolor liqueurs stream from bottles and shakers as 786-Bartend infuses the brains of students with 80-proof knowledge. Workshops for intro and advanced mixology—developed by founder Isaac Ergas—begin with international history lessons on the origin and evolution of the modern cocktail. Then barkeeps expound on the spirited synergies of high-quality liquors and common drink ingredients and share veteran bar-backing tips, such as how to open drink umbrellas in a windstorm. Prospective bartenders can opt to complete the 40-hour bartending course, which provides in-depth instruction on drink preparation and presentation, job-interview etiquette, and resumé construction. Taught onsite in an actual nightclub, 786-Bartend’s courses let students serve drinks to real customers who, like regular bar patrons, ignore last call and try to open tabs with library cards.
