  • Sun Valley Golf Course
The family-owned Sun Valley Golf Course cultivates a welcoming atmosphere that sets nerves at ease so that youngsters and beginners can make a stress-free foray into the lifelong game. The par 27 excursion politely omits any tee shot longer than 145 yards, eliminating the trepidation felt on long tee shots over water or asteroid craters at larger venues. Nevertheless, small greens and quick changes in elevation keep even more experienced players on their toes and help them to hone short-game technique. The course's short layout ensures that players average less than 90 minutes for a nine-hole round, leaving plenty of time in the day to polish lucky golf balls. Its simple course layout makes Sun Valley Golf Course a natural place for young club cadets to take up the game. Junior golf programs led by instructor Mike Cortes help kids to develop proper form at an early age through camps, clinics, and classes. Course at a Glance: 9-hole, par 27 course Total length of 1,057 yards from the back tees Two sets of tees per hole

  • Inspire San Diego Studio
Signature service: Social art-making workshops Established: 2014 Reservations/Appointments: Required Staff Size: 2?10 people Average Duration of Services: 2?4 hours Pro Tip: Come with an open mind. It's all about process?not product. We are all artists in our own way. Q&A with Jessica Kost, Owner Besides making clients happy, what do you like most about your job? The thing I love the most about my job is watching art works come to life by people who initially thought they couldn't make anything. It's a magical experience and fills me up with such pride for each person who comes to a workshop. I hope they leave with a sense of accomplishment and a higher self-worth. When and how did you first develop a passion for your work? I developed a passion for social art-making in college. I would stay up all night with my friends, making art and drinking wine. It didn't matter what we were making?it was all about being creative together. Once I was out of college, and immersed in my career, I kept looking at the art I had made and longing for a spark that would inspire me to take it back up again. After a while, I was sick of feeling guilty for having blank canvases stuck in the corner and decided to find new people I could make art, with the hope that I could rekindle my passion for art. I did, and it worked. I was finally making art again and feeling that wonderful closeness with others in my creative circle. I decided to turn this into a business to spark that same feeling in others on a larger scale. Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover? We encourage people to be playful, add their own ideas, and create their own masterpieces. Making art is an activity similar to bike-riding or bowling. We're not expecting people to make gallery show pieces. We only ask that they try something new.

Clients can sign up for our free monthly newsletter filled with educational resources on exercises and stretches they can do to maintain proper body mechanics, increase flexibility, and reduce pain. The interior of a business can affect how its customers feel. What kind of decor do you use to help make your clients feel pampered and at ease? Our physical therapy gyms are designed to allow treatment to focus on functional body movement and mechanics. We use free weights, medicine balls, kettlebells, and other equipment that will maximize an individual's freedom of movement through an exercise, rather than gym equipment. Our massage rooms are set apart from our physical therapy gyms to minimize noise disruption during massage sessions. What is one fun, unusual fact about your business? We started 11 years ago in a garage just doing physical therapy, and have grown into three facilities in San Diego and La Mesa, expanding our services to include massage, personal training, sports-performance training, group classes, and multisport coaching.

  • Jolts n joes
One of the more popular bars in La Mesa, Jolts n joes features wonderful pub food. It's a popular spot for customers interested in good food. If you're planning ahead, most people will be quick to share that later in the week (Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays) is the best time to visit. Also, you'll definitely want to take advantage of its outdoor seating when you feel like soaking in some of that California sun. It should be noted that casual attire is encouraged. Also, with a rockin' juke box, things can get a bit loud. If you just feel like stopping by for a drink, the restaurant has helpful bar staff (and a good selection behind the bar). A staple in the community for more than 15 years (and counting), making a trip to Jolts n joes is never a bad call. Don't worry about trying to find a spot on the street, as visitors to the restaurant do have access to a private parking lot nearby. Should you prefer to pedal over there, bicycle parking's also provided.
