Beach volleyball and bowling lanes seldom come in the same package—unless you happen to be at Kent Lanes. The indoor and outdoor facility pairs two regulation-size silica-sand beach-volleyball courts with an expansive arena of polished lanes, letting competitors hammer spikes and orchestrate strikes like 19th century railroad workers.
A full-service tiki bar stands beside the sandy courts, setting the tone with cold drinks and tropical tunes as spectators kick back at picnic tables and enjoy the live action of a game on a 50-inch flatscreen TV. Inside, guests can unwind at the 11th Frame, which serves pizza, traditional grill fare, and daily drink specials. Kent Lanes also hosts volleyball and bowling leagues for those looking for team camaraderie without having to endure a series of trust falls.
The YMCA Adventure Warrior Race gives kids and adults a chance to prove themselves against ropes courses, mud, water obstacles, and other unexpected mental and physical challenges—all while supporting a good cause. Amid the breathtaking views and tranquil waters of Lake Tris, runners maneuver around trees and carry heavy objects up the sometimes snow-covered Laurel Highlands mountains, climbing up to 1,000 feet as they go. Warriors aged 16 and older make a 4-mile circuit, whereas younger participants run age-appropriate distances of a half mile or a full mile. Trophies and the respect of all the woodland creatures are awarded to the top male and female runners, top male and female teams, and top co-ed team. According to the Daily American, funds raised from the race provide camp scholarships that allow kids to attend residential and day programs at the 263-acre YMCA Camp T. Frank Soles.

What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
Depending on the goals of the client, the type of workout each day can be drastically different from the previous one completed. This is beneficial because it not only helps find what is enjoyable for the client, but also produces results that help reach different goals.
Exercise is challenging. How do you keep clients motivated and engaged?
I try to set both short and long term goals. I also keep very detailed records that allows us to go back and see how the performance of certain activities has improved.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
My passion for the fitness industry started when I was a young kid trying to lose weight. It grew from there as I noticed the benefits it had on my life both athletically and general healthwise. I then decided to pursue school in the exercise science field. Which then led me here.
What do you love most about your job?
Being able to use my talents to help a wide variety of people. I train kids as young as 10 and men and women as old as 72. I have even trained clients with disabilities. I have clients with all sorts of goals, trying to lose or gain weight, improve overall health, or are just looking to have fun.
