For Matt Tarlecki, Abandoned Building Brewery is a true passion project. Before he took over the 2,700-square-foot space at 142 Pleasant Street, the building sat abandoned, a former plastic bag manufacturing plant. Not wanting to let a workhorse of industrialization fall into ruin and become an eyesore, he began rehabbing the space. He even designed and built most of the brewery himself, including the 15 barrel brewhouse and two 30 barrel fermenters. In addition to beautifying the neighborhood, Matt maintains his hometown ties by using malted barley and hops grown in Massachusetts and New England for most of his beers.
Here's a quick look at some of Abandoned Building Brewery's beers you might find on draft:
Dirty Girl IPA: five hop varieties create a piney, citrus flavor balanced by a solid malt backbone and slight sweetness for an easy-drinking American-style IPA (6.7% ABV)
Lola’s Saison: this classic Belgian-style farmhouse ale is made with European pilsner malt and locally malted wheat plus European hops, which lend it a fresh aroma (5.1% ABV)
Nightshade Stout: a robust stout featuring seven types of malts, which add chocolate and roasted coffee notes for a well-balanced brew (6.8% ABV)
