    In addition to the sense of perseverance and accomplishment that comes with finishing a 5K, the organizers of the Bacon Chase have added another incentive: bacon. During their two races?the 5K Piggy Pilgrimage, which is a traditional 5K, and the 0.05K Blitz to Bacon, which is a 164-foot sprint?runners can munch on unlimited bacon bits before feasting on unlimited amounts of bacon at the finish line. Runners 21 and older can wash down the savory strips of bacon with a bloody mary, and all runners get a Bacon Chase T-shirt and a signature bacon-scented bib. The festival opens at 8 a.m. and features many bacon-themed activities, plus music. The festive day serves a greater purpose, too. Attendees will be able to register to become a St. Jude Hero, raise money for St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital, or both.

  • Portland Urban Beer Hunt
    PDX Hunt pits teams against each other during treasure and beer hunts as they scour cities in search of checkpoints in order to win cash and prizes. Hunts are held in various cities across the country, with teams getting acquainted with their own city and one another as they fight for bragging rights. Text-messaged clues point contestants in the right direction, leading them to secret locations to which they then dash like dogs to spilled hot-dog water. At various locations, crews must complete unique tasks. Moving on foot or city bus, groups must stay together at all times, lest wanderers fall prey to competing gangs or become distracted by lurking shadow puppeteers. After the races, which can sometimes cover 4–6 miles, the top 10 placing teams receive prizes and glory for their skillful navigation of the town.

  • Waterfront Fitness
    When he's not whipping the youth soccer players of the Portland Timbers into shape, Waterfront Fitness's owner Jason Bell heads to the city?s riverside parks to shape up everyday citizens with rigorous athletic drills. He and his team of qualified instructors convene beneath Portland's sky during all but the coldest months, incinerating calories during one-hour boot camps held every morning and evening. These sessions include activities such as strength circuits, Interval training, games, and box fit, which features high-speed punching drills and cardiovascular throwdowns beneath the boughs of mighty park trees. The trainers also provide general and sport-specific personal training for exercisers in search of an intense, highly personalized regimen to build muscle or burn fat.

  • Urban Dare
    Urban Dare Adventure Race is a fast-paced competition that challenges two-person teams to decipher clues, navigate the city, and perform playful stunts. A dozen trivia-based clues lead contestants to checkpoints all over Los Angeles, where they must use a camera to document their presence and, in some cases, the completion of challenges, such as scaling a wall or shooting hoops. In addition to running and walking, contestants may use public transportation to move from checkpoint to checkpoint, though taxis, cars, and bikes are off-limits. Races generally last less than four hours, and the winning team receives free entry in the Super Dare, a cruise-based take on the Urban Dare concept that features a $5,000 grand prize. Proceeds from the race are used to help battle breast cancer.

We provide personal guidance for your goals, including nutrition, scaling, and exercise modification. But the real secret to your success is our community of supportive students and mentors. We foster a welcoming, family-like atmosphere, infused with humor, challenge and encouragement. Our gym is a place you'll look forward to, and that will empower you with the motivation to succeed. What is the biggest mistake you see people make when trying to get fit on their own? The biggest mistake I see people make is searching for short-cuts, gimmicks or easy results. Of course fitness can be simple, but simple isn't necessarily easy. I see too many people go from one method to the next without allowing proper time for success. Find what works for you, and make small adjustments from there. Consistency is the key. What is a typical session of your program or class like for a student? We constantly vary our workouts so you'll never get bored and you'll be less likely to plateau or over-train. So every session looks a little different. However, some consistent features of our sessions include a general warm-up followed by guided mobility and stretching. Then we move on to a coached skills learning session and a workout of the day (WOD) with strength training and metabolic conditioning. Sessions conclude with a cool-down and mobility, along with goal-tracking and social time. Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover? As we enter our 10th year of training, we were originally one of only a few Portland area CrossFit gyms, back before most people had ever heard of CrossFit. We are also expanding our accessibility to become Portland's first and only 24-hour CrossFit gym. Our veteran coaches boast decades of combined training experience, to provide each individual the guidance they need to be safe, confident and successful, regardless of injuries or current fitness level. As of this spring, our new location is housed within a 60,000-square-foot warehouse, yet we maintain hands-on and community driven classes by capping most of them at only 12 students. We also offer more than just CrossFit. We have workshops devoted to boxing, strongman techniques, yoga, and endurance. Students may take advantage of open-gym time outside of class, as well as personal training sessions.

  • Apple Cup Rivalry Clash
    The rivalry between Ducks fans and Beavers fans is built right into the Ducks vs. Beavers Rivalry Clash's race course. Supporters of the two teams, decked out in their most spirited gear, kick off the chip-timed race at separate starting lines, and begin the race by running straight towards each like old armies. Instead of a head-on collision, the two groups funnel into a single mass, sharing a race course as they vie for the fastest times on the 5K or 10K route. The speediest school wins a donation to their university's laptop scholarship program, plus the right to refer to their rival school as "our satellite campus." Regardless of the results, everyone buries the hatchet at a tailgate-style afterparty, where entertainment ranges from a tug-of-war to the most beloved of collegiate pastimes: a flip-cup tournament. The flip-cup games, as well as corn-hole and other competitive events, give racers a chance to earn more glory for their schools. There are also awards for the fastest individuals, the team of five with the lowest combined time, and the school with the lowest overall score (as determined by the sum of the top 100 runners' places).
