As summer turns to fall and the barbecue grills begin their migration south, The Patch at The Farm welcomes visitors to celebrate the dawning of the harvest season across its 30 acres. Taking up 11 of those acres, the corn maze's twists and turns test visitors' problem-solving skills. Bright-orange pumpkins pepper a 4-acre patch, patiently awaiting families to bring them home, where they'll fully blossom into pies or grinning jack-o'-lanterns. Over in the petting zoo, goats, chickens, and mini-donkeys entertain wee ones with rides and their ability to speak five languages. Other attractions include a hayride to Lanesfield Museum, ziplining, pumpkin bowling, a pedal track, and bounce houses.
Heart to Heart International began as the vision of Dr. Gary Morsch, who challenged his local Rotary club to donate medical supplies to hospitals in Moscow at the end of the Cold War. With local collections across the country and the aid of the U.S. government, they distributed aid to 15 area hospitals. Today, Heart to Heart International continues to improve health conditions all over the world by connecting individuals in need with medical resources. It mobilizes volunteers to provide medical education and aid, respond to international crises, and address community health concerns.
Louis Bar and Laura Cantu have made a habit of competing on the world stage. As six-time French National champions and five-time World Finalists in Argentine tango and swing, they're more than capable of helming the educators at Louis & Company Ballroom Dance Studio. Along with the rest of the instructors, they teach three main dance styles and the various permutations contained within each. Latin classes cover the upbeat tempo and swinging hips of samba, cha-cha, and bolero, and the studio's ballroom classes celebrate slow and smooth elegance. Louis and Laura also lead protégés in the seductive duel that is tango, named for the tangerines that you typically hurl at dancers instead of applause.
The Main Street Mile is a fun event in which pavement-traversing mettle can be tested without pulling a semi-truck with one’s teeth. As the most significant street in the City of Fountains, Main Street sees its share of trampling flip-flops and skipping running shoes; the Main Street Mile race focuses on raising awareness of the street’s changing face and helps not-for-profit organizations work toward improving the renowned corridor. There is a family run and walk at 9 a.m. as well as a competitive heat at 9:30 a.m. Additionally, prizes (you'll receive a free T-shirt), food and drinks, and children’s activities will be available at race's end to ensure the whole family and lost Vikings are entertained. With an artistic approach that she describes as "painting with light, highlights, and shadows," Morris uses natural elements to create inimitable portraits for her clients, whether she's snapping maternity pictures, senior pictures, or canine law-school-graduation pictures. As comfortable in the classroom as she is behind a camera, Morris leads aspiring photographers and shutterbugs through workshops in the art of memory preservation, helping them grasp the inner workings of their cameras while finding their own photographic style.
