What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
My father began this business to provide high quality instruments for a low quality price. Teaching violin is a passion, and watching children and adults learn to play and enjoy the violin is a dream come true.
What do you love most about your job?
I love watching people learn to enjoy playing the violin like I do. Playing violin can bring such joy to anyone's life. There is no age limit to learning this instrument. I love teaching.
Creator of the conversational Cortez Method of Spanish lessons, Juan Guillermo Cortez started the Spanish Language Center in 2001 to expand the lessons he learned as a private Spanish teacher. With a stable of trained instructors, the school guides students of all skill levels through the intricacies of Spanish speaking during conversational group classes. Conversation-focused classes range from introductory courses that lay out Spanish-language basics, such as grammar and how to roll an r with the confidence of an archaeologist playing Operation, to advanced-level lessons on commands and the subjunctive tense. Each class hosts an average of 6–12 students and, like a sturdy soapbox, includes ample opportunity to practice speaking skills. In addition to providing all necessary materials, teachers also unlock access to an online class system full of updates and information.
Although Christopher Paul is a professional photographer, he doesn’t like having his picture taken. Since he knows what it’s like to feel a little uncomfortable on the other side of the lens, he spends his time crafting shoots that are as engaging and easy-going as possible for his subjects, whether he’s capturing family portraits, engagement photos, or keepsake wedding stills. Rather than working out of a studio, for example, he always shoots at a location of the subject’s choosing. He prefers shooting outdoors. People not only tend to relax outside, but natural light is far more flattering than that of a flashbulb. He also shows subjects proofs during as they pose, so they aren’t surprised by their final shots.
The faculty of Jane Addams School is proud of the environment it fosters. Focusing on instilling knowledge, skills, and independence, it educates elementary-age children for the 21st century. And that student population hints at the diversity the future will likely hold. From various neighborhoods and socio-economic backgrounds, the student body is roughly two-thirds hispanic and one quarter white with significant populations of black, asian, and Native American children. Together, they learn about the world and academics in a safe setting, participating in academics, a Lego robotics league, and sports teams.
