  • One5 Basketball
James Mereus's playing résumé includes college ball, professional play overseas, and workouts with NBA teams such as the Toronto Raptors, Atlanta Hawks, and Memphis Grizzlies. Today, he's set his sights a few inches shorter. Still, the founder of One5 Basketball, a youth camp and clinic, uses his passion and basketball IQ to teach the next generation of ballers about the fundamentals of the game. For help, he's tapped a team of equally experienced trainers: record-setting college players, overseas MVPs, and players from professional international leagues. Through drills, games, and instruction, One5's trainers teach shooting and dribbling skills, offense and defense fundamentals, and footwork, all while helping kids improve their agility and hand-eye coordination. But Mereus's vision means his charges' experience will go beyond learning bounce passes and perfecting signatures for shoe endorsements. The ultimate mission is to instill concepts of teamwork and goal-setting, helping build confidence and self-esteem that will give athletes a will to win and the ability to learn from loss.

  • N Zone Sports
At N Zone Sports, coaches develop players both on and off the field. Instead of cultivating a highly competitive atmosphere, they allow each child to get ample time in the spotlight—so long as he or she demonstrates a sufficient grasp of sportsmanship and teamwork. Tikes as young as 3 years old can prove their mastery of the concepts of flag football, soccer, cheerleading, basketball, or baseball or by shaking the hand of someone who just poured Gatorade over their heads.

  • Off The Wall Trampoline Fun Center
Safe, springy, and super-exciting: kids and adults can agree on that description of Off The Wall Trampoline Fun Center's 11,000 square feet of trampoline space, where every surface (walls included) is either bouncy or softly padded. Besides hopping around like kangaroos on a moon mission, visitors can play low-gravity versions of dodgeball, or an all-dunks take on basketball. Off The Wall's remaining 25,500 square feet contain other exciting indoor attractions as well, including a rock wall and and arcade full of new and old-school games with a variety of prizes available. A restaurant with a java bar is also available for guests looking for something to eat or drink, with beer and wine available. Inside a two-level laser tag arena, players defend earth from invading alien robots during pitched battles beneath strobe lights. A special jump area has also been set aside for younger kids, along with a toddler playground designed for kids 6 and under. To reenergize after a long day of play, the whole family can reconvene at Off The Wall's café for Angus burgers or slices of New York-style pizza.

His camp is staffed with a slew of local coaches and former college and professional athletes who help students improve their skills in soccer, gymnastics, volleyball, and other sports. A dedicated basketball camp—Coach Marty’s forte—runs kids aged 4-14 through shooting, passing, and rebounding drills before they tackle full-court games. Younger campers also partake in arts-and-crafts projects and watch movies in which Air Bud negotiates a million-dollar gym-shoe sponsorship.
