  • Color Vibe Los Angeles 5K Run
The Color Vibe Los Angeles 5K Run starts out like any other race, but by the end, participants look more like pieces of abstract art than runners. As they race along the streets of Los Angeles, runners are streaked with nontoxic powdered paints that cover clothing and skin in a wash of bright yellows, pinks, and blues. All the while, professional photographers snap candid shots of the colorful, untimed race; the photographs are available for free to all participants so they may share them with whomever runs their household's printing press. This year’s race will take place on Saturday, October 20, at the Fairplex in Pomona, California. The first wave of runners hits the road at 9 a.m., and subsequent groups leave the starting line every 10 minutes after that.

  • Wonder of Dinosaurs
It seems impossible enough to present the public with just one prehistoric beast. Wonder of Dinosaurs, however, is home to more than 100 museum-quality dinosaurs. The traveling exhibition displays a legion of realistic dinosaur replicas and robots that guests can explore at their leisure on self-guided tours. The experience is just as educational as it is enthralling, with scientific facts posted next to each dinosaur that describe its size and lifestyle. Visitors also engage in activities. These include leaping on bouncy dinosaur inflatables, playing rounds of miniature golf, and panning for gemstones and fossils in a sluice. During dinosaur rides, guests can even sit atop a robotic dinosaur.

  • Neon Dash
As the sun sets and darkness blankets the city, runners, joggers, and walkers of all ages run, jog, or walk through the Neon Dash, a luminescent jaunt that benefits a chosen charity partner. To the soundtrack of adrenaline-boosting tunes, participants clad in white T-shirts make their way through a glowing foam and bubble zone and four glow zones, each filled with volunteers armed with a different color of intense UV neon. Once across the finish line, they'll attend the After Glow Party, which bathes them in the otherworldly illumination of black lights and the accompanying joy of wearing a self-satisfied smile as they play games and enjoy entertainment for the rest of the night.

  • Splash Dash 5K
Nobody leaves the Splash Dash 5K dry. A series of splash stations equipped with massive showers, shallow pools, and careening water balloons litter the 3.1-mile course, waiting to soak every participant before they cross the finish line. Down one straightaway, runners may confront a gang of volunteers ready to blast them with water guns, only to turn a corner and face the deluge of a fire hose. After braving the watery gauntlet, runners of all ages celebrate their victories at the Splash Dash Bash after party, where prizes are awarded for the best costumes and finish times as runners dance to music and attempt to dry off by matching the speed of their washer's spin cycle.

  • Rock N Glow 5K, 2013 by Hi5F
Flashes of neon light up the night during the Rock N Glow 5K, a glow-in-the-dark race by Hi5F, which donates a portion of the proceeds to Coconino Humane Association. As darkness descends on the host city, racers get into the glowing spirit by strapping on vibrant clothing, oversized sunglasses, wigs, and layers of glow-in-the-dark swag. Once everyone is geared up, the noncompetitive race begins, snaking through 3.1 miles of neon-soaked path soundtracked by energetic, heart-pumping music. And once everyone is across the finish line, racers and supporters cap off the night with a glowing after party complete with live DJs, dancing, food, and a cash bar.
