  • Bad Seed Cider Co
Since launching in the summer of 2011 by child hood friends Albert and Devin, Bad Seed Cider Co has expanded to produce three distinct hand-crafted hard ciders made from apples grown in the Hudson Valley. During tap room tours, guests can opt to solely visit the cider house or also indulge in samples of hard cider. These include their signature Dry Hard Cider, a really dry cider, the Bourbon Barrel Reserve, a cider carefully aged in barrels from Kentucky distilleries, and the distinctive Belgian Abbey Cider, which is fermented with a Belgian Abbey beer yeast and reflects tart, tangy, and dry notes.

Cuisine Type: Small-batch, hand-built spirits Established: 2014 Reservations: Required Handicap Accessible: No Parking: Parking lot Most Popular Offering: Vodka Kid-friendly: Yes Delivery/Takeout Available: Yes Outdoor Seating: Yes In 1990, Thomas Yozzo and Chris Moyer met at their fraternity at Bloomsburg University. They got along so well that they'd vacation together with their families over the ensuing years and even discussed opening a business together. They didn't necessarily know what type of business it would be, but they knew they'd be able to work well together, unlike raisins and any known dessert. In 2009, Thomas suggested they open a distillery, and after years of research, the duo purchased a small farm and apple orchard in 2013. They renovated the farm's 150-year-old barn from the ground up and turned it into the distillery and tasting room. They also used the orchard's four acres of apples to create their apple-based vodka and applejack liquor. Thomas and Chris have created a bourbon as well, and plan on introducing the public to their whiskey and their gin—made with botanicals grown on their farm—as soon as they're ready.

  • Haight-Brown Vineyard
Since opening in 1975, Haight-Brown Vineyard has churned out 2,000 cases of grape-based libations each year from its nearly 10-acre vineyard and welcomed visitors into its rustic, cottage-like wine house. Emphasizing vinifera and French hybrid grapes, the state’s first-established winery creates a selection of wines that include the Big Red, a bold syrah; the Morning Harvest, a rich malbec; and Honey Nut Apple, a traditional apple wine that incorporates local honey and cinnamon. Vintners share their time-tested expertise during regular classes that teach aspiring oenophiles about a variety of vintages and techniques for cheese and chocolate pairing. Amid the tasting room’s wood accents and crackling stone fireplace, customers sample vintages and attempt to describe taste sensations with adjectives such as “silky” or “very different from milk.”
