At the Fire Museum of Maryland, visitors learn the importance of fire safety and experience a trip through the history of firefighting. With vintage equipment and trucks, the museum is a multisensory exploration of how firefighting has changed through the years.
Praise: CBS Baltimore named it one of the five best children's museums in Maryland.
Size: The museum displays 40 antique fire engines, as well as gear that dates back to the early 1800s.
Highlights: Monthly special events, extensive photo collection and library, and a Fire of 1904 wall of artifacts and movie that illustrates the historical fire that changed Baltimore and firefighting history. Newest exhibit is a Logs and Ledgers and Rare Prints gallery.
Eye Catcher: Museum staff carefully restored the cast-iron façade of Baltimore Engine Co. #8; behind it lies an exhibit called Life of a Fireman, with the trappings of a typical firehouse.
Tribute: The Charles T. Holloway exhibit celebrates Baltimore's most famous firefighter, displaying his retirement watch as well as other artifacts from his life.
Hands-On Activities: In one corner of the museum, kids can try on firefighter gear and marvel at how much lighter it is than their bookbags. They can also climb and play on a fire truck.
Special Programs: Museum staff, inclusing a full time education director, have carefully curated seven different tours, geared toward different age groups matching Baltimore County’s educational curriculum and the Next Generation Science Standards. In one, kids learn fire safety by working to rescue someone from a burning building; in another, adults see firsthand how the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904 was overcome. All tours are available by preregistration.
Rentals Available: Rent a fire truck for your event, host a birthday party with or without rides. Special events, weddings and meeting space are available at the museum.

To form an accurate picture of Coach G’s Basketball Skills Academy at Towson University, take a closer look at its namesake.
The Head Coach
Niki Reid Geckeler—AKA Coach G—arrived at Towson University with plenty of success as both a basketball player and coach. As a four-year starting point guard for Georgetown, she led the team to the 1992-93 Big East Conference co-championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen. And as a coach at Howard University, she amassed 85 career wins, including 20-plus-win seasons and three postseason tournament appearances.
The coach arrived at Towson University in 2013. Here, she's coached several players who have since gone pro and helped others break school records or reach their 1,000th point.
To set those records, players have to master the fundamentals, something the coach emphasizes at Coach G’s Basketball Skills Academy at Towson University. The instructional basketball camp provides boys and girls aged 6–18 with a welcoming atmosphere where they can hone their ball-handling, shooting, and defensive skills.
In 2007, the Tim Tang Test set up shop in the hinterlands of the Internet. Its neon colors, clipboard-art imagery, and Geocities aesthetic may give the site an air of endearing simplicity, but it only serves to lull gamers into a false sense of security. To date, nobody has ever solved all of the logic, word, and math puzzles on the site. And it's not for lack of trying. Upward of four million puzzle masters, engineers, and hobbyists have attempted the gauntlet.
Consider this fair warning to anyone looking to best Escape Key, which uses puzzles from the Time Tang Test in its escape rooms. Updating the puzzles from 2-D to 3-D, engineers have created rooms full of mind-bending riddles that players need to solve in 60 minutes in order to win the game and escape. But the difficulty is all part of the fun, as long as you're prepared to stare down the real possibility of defeat—and get your picture taken holding a sign that says something like, "There is no esc," and "I lost ctrl."
"You're up." At more than 200 AMF Bowling locations across the U.S., that message is passed between friends as they pick up a ball, step up to the line, and prepare to have a great time. Now synonymous with bowling, AMF was founded in 1901 as American Machine and Foundry. It wasn't until 1946, however, that the company made a splash in bowling, introducing the automated pin spotter to the public.
Today, AMF's nationwide network of bowling centers is a source of year-round entertainment for people of all ages. AMF centers offer a modern approach to traditional bowling—with pro-quality lanes, innovative scoring systems, all-star menus, and the ability to share laneside experiences on social media. When cravings strike, the game still goes on thanks to AMF’s laneside food and beverage service.
