Wine Varieties

Wine Vintage Appellation Varietal Alcohol Tasting Notes Cam Confidential Quick Notes Awards Recipe Pairing
Lot 354 2010 Crozes Hermitage (Syrah) 2010 Crozes Hermitage, France Syrah 13.5% The wine is ripe and concentrated and certainly a more masculine style with an intense nose of plum, spice, blueberries and black pepper. Simultaneously floral and dense on the palate with flavors of macerated berries and gamey rose petals. This wine is meaty with tremendous depth, richness and pitch-perfect balance, sharing much of the transparent structure attributed to wines from the Rhône Valley. Lot 354 hails from 2010, another acclaimed, classic vintage of the Rhône. A couple bucks more than our other Crozes offerings, but I believe you’ll find the increase in quality more than enough to cover the additional tariff. Style: Medium, Fruity
Flavors: Blueberry, Pepper, Plum
Gold Medal: 2013 San Diego International Wine Competition; Gold Medal: Dallas Morning News This goes great with flavorful meat dishes. Try Pork Spare Ribs.
Lot 422 2012 Arroyo Seco Chardonnay 2012 Arroyo Seco, California Chardonnay 13.8% Abounds with citrus oil, crushed flowers, honeysuckle, guava, and baked almond notes. Vivid acidity and lush tropical flavors align in perfect tandem to deliver a buttery, mouthwatering texture. Our perennial best seller is drop dead gorgeous…I believe our best yet, but at least certainly on par with the fantastic 2009 Lots 238 and 280 Arroyo Seco Chardonnays (same sourcing). Possesses all the impact of the 2009s but with better purity and complexity. Style: Light, Fruity
Flavors: Almond, Citrus, Honey, Lemon
Gold Medal: Critics Challenge Great with seafood. Try chili shrimp & nectarine skewers
Lot 358 2011 Mendoza Malbec Argentina 2011 Mendoza, Argentina Malbec 13.9% Lot 358 Malbec has juicy texture and lush fruit flavor, but is most lovable for its drinkability. Violet in color, with flavor aromas of black cherry and plum that carry through to the palate. There is a nice richness, it is very balanced, not an over-the-top style. It has a long and lovely finish with firm tannins. You could age a couple years, but why bother when its drinking so well now. This Malbec was made with our longtime producer partner in Mendoza. 2011 was an epic vintage in Luján de Cuyo and the neighboring Valle de Uco. We identified vineyard blocks in both valleys that reveal the sheer power and balance for which Malbec is famous.
Style: Full, Bold
Flavors: Cherry, Plum
Gold Medal: Dallas Morning News This pairs with hearty meat dishes. Try it with a beef stew.
Lot 405 2012 Central Coast Pinot Noir 2012 Central Coast, California Pinot Noir 14.2% Leaps from the glass with classic aromas of smoky black cherry and plum, supported by spicy raspberry and high-toned violet florals. Lush cherry and bramble notes dominate the fleshy palate. Supple tannins integrate seamlessly with plum bass notes in a long, juicy finish. Sourced primarily from high-end vineyards in Arroyo Seco (with a splash from Westside Paso Robles and the Russian River Valley), this is ridiculously good Pinot Noir at an amazing price. Style: Medium, Smooth
Flavors: Cherry, Raspberry
2013 Savvy Mom Recommendation, Dining Around with Joel Riddell 2014 ''Best Value'' pick Pinot will pair with a variety of seafood or poultry dishes. Try it with sesame-crusted salmon.
