The Deal

  • $29 for six salsa-dancing classes (a $90 value)

Salsa-dancing lessons cover the fundamentals, including salsa steps, movements, and technique. Students learn to dance to a specific rhythm, lead and follow with a partner, and drill footwork until it’s second nature. Small class sizes allow instructors to give each student individual attention and ensure class members keep up with one another. Click here for the schedule.

C.U. Dance

Four years in the making, C.U. Dance began with a trip to the Miami salsa congress. C.U.’s founders were so taken by the experience that they went on to dance in Cuba and soon started performing as a group—calling themselves Casineros Unidos Dance—in Toronto and San Francisco. It was at this time that the seed of an idea started to form in their minds: to establish a fun and comfortable salsa-dancing school. They pursued this goal by founding Havana Nights, an inclusive salsa party that traversed rooftop bars. Over time, the phenomenon took hold, and C.U. Dance was finally born as a full-on dance studio and school.

Today, a staff of charismatic instructors— with more than a decade of experience— teaches Latin-dance fundamentals, as well as intricate nightclub combinations, during group and private sessions. Lessons focus not only on steps and techniques, but also on why certain movements are included in the dance. Instructors encourage their pupils to bend the rules and inject their own creativity into the dance. Lessons on choreographed routines are also available for groups of dancers who want to strut their stuff as the centre of attention.
