Forest Park blankets Portland’s hillsides with more than 5,000 acres of urban-forest preserve, out of which springs massive trees and plant life. However the passage of time and invasive species have taken their toll on the natural landscape, dramatically reducing its health and ability to contribute to the region’s ecosystem by helping to clean its air and water. Friends of Trees champions verdant city landscapes with tree planting and conservation programs that rejuvenate natural spaces.

As part of its Green Spaces Initiative, Friends of Trees is working to plant more than 10,000 native trees and shrubs in the Collins Sanctuary of Forest Park during the next six years. Interlaced with hiking and biking trails, Forest Park inspires outdoor exploration with its natural wonders including river views, ravines, and more than 112 species of birds and mammals. Restoring the city forest will benefit an array of natural life by rebuilding a wildlife habitat, repopulating a variety of flora, and restoring the forest’s ability to help clean the region’s air and water. In the long run, these new trees will help to establish a higher canopy, which has been deteriorating during the past six decades. Raising the canopy will help sequester carbon, divert rainwater to prevent it from flooding nearby rivers, and forge a more vibrant vista.

Join G-Team and donate $15 to help repopulate and raise the Collins Sanctuary canopy in Forest Park. If G-Team members raise $450, Friends of Trees can plant 30 trees in the Collins Sanctuary. Each additional $15 raised will fund the plantation of another tree.

Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.

The Groupon Guide to: Family Vacations

With the economy leaving families in such a sour state, it behooves a household to squeeze every moment of togetherness possible out of a vacation. Here’s a guide to getting the most out of your next familial trip:

  • Nothing annoys dads more than constant restroom stops, so be sure to spend the week before the trip going to the bathroom.
  • Even though you’re excited, don't wake your dad too early. He needs to conserve enough energy for driving the car in the right direction and constantly threatening to turn it around.
  • Do not ask your parents where ice cream comes from. Also don’t ask where Dippin’ Dots come from, because the answer is obviously the future.
  • Sure, whatever, here's some money.
  • Take a lot of family pictures. One day, Dad will be able to silently stare at them, wondering where the time has gone. The phone rings. It is a man selling credit cards….

How can thinking about the future ruin your next family vacation?
