Danube River Cruise and Optional Coach or Bicycle Tours Through Historic Central Europe

The Danube is Europe’s second-longest river, passing through nine countries on its nearly 1,770-mile-long route from Germany’s Black Forest to the Black Sea in Romania. You’ll pass through Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Slovakia on your nine-day, eight-night tour from Beyond Boundaries Travel, which begins in the German town of Passau. The tour includes round-trip airfare from New York (JFK); ground transfer from Munich to Passau; river-cruise accommodations; and all daily meals—a breakfast buffet, three-course lunch, four-course dinner, afternoon coffee, tea, and cake, and a midnight snack.

As you travel down the river, there are several opportunities to disembark and cycle through the river towns, and the cost of bicycle rentals is included with this Groupon. The lengths of the biking day trips range from 9 up to 35 miles, and some routes can be shortened for leisure cyclists.

Days 1–3: Passau, Germany to Austria and Slovakia

Highlight: Travel by bus or bike from the medieval Austrian town of Hainburg to the Imperial Palace of Hof, which comprises a stately palace, landscaped baroque gardens, and a manor farm. You’ll also ride alongside the Iron Curtain’s former boundary.

Day 4: Budapest, Hungary

Highlight: You have the option of a bus or bike tour through Szentendre, a riverside Hungarian town about 14 miles north of Budapest. The Mediterranean-esque village is lined with cobbled streets, Serbian churches, and dozens of art museums, and the region is famous for it's Hungarian wines.

Days 5–6: Danube Bend to Vienna, Austria

Highlight: The tour by bus or bike starts at the scenic Hungarian village of Visegrád, known for its fortress and 14th-century palace ruins. The route continues onto the riverside town of Esztergom, a center of Roman Catholicism for more than 1,000 years and home to the Esztergom Basilica, one of Hungary’s largest Catholic churches.

Days 7–8: Wachau, Austria to Passau, Germany

Highlight: You’ll tour by bus or bike through the Austrian countryside speckled with castles, monasteries, and vineyards. Pedal past the small baroque town of Durnstein and its monastery church, a landmark of the Wachau Valley.

It is a great deal. Have not gone yet, but I am sure we will not be disappointed. Met a couple in Venice who were on a Groupon trip! They absolutely loved the bargain.

So far the owner, Doug, has been extremely helpful, and we look forward to a great vacation through Beyond Boundaries.

My husband and I purchased our vouchers and have tentative dates of travel, but we haven't officially confirmed it yet. However, every time I've called or emailed them, Doug or Cindy have answered my numerous questions in detail and even offered their personal opinions without pushing anything on us. I have been very pleased with this company. Lucy & Paul
