I was very unhappy with the fact that the pool was closed the whole time we were there. The only reason I had purchased the groupon was because of the pool. My kids were so disappointed. The first night stay was horrid because the phone rang a few times in the middle of the night from front desk also a knock on the door at 3am from housekeeping to bring a bed we had already recieved earlier. Would not go back.

4.5-Star Mystery Hotel Near Major DC Attractions

Built more than a century ago, the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, DC, is one of the country’s oldest institutions of its kind as well as one of the most popular. Of the more than 2,000 animals housed at the 150-acre complex, the most famous by a long shot are Mei Xiang and Tian Tian, two extremely rare giant pandas from China. You can see the beloved black-and-white power couple up-close during your stay at this family-friendly 4.5-star mystery hotel, which boasts elegant accommodations, modern amenities, and an excellent location near the zoo and several other DC landmarks, including the National Mall and the Smithsonian Institution.

Outside the hotel, you’ll find old-fashioned streetlamps, a brick façade, and more than 10 acres of beautifully manicured gardens. Guest rooms are trimmed in regal gold and crimson décor, and feature plush bedding and big-screen TVs. There are four separate dining options onsite where you can choose from freshly made deli sandwiches, gourmet steaks, and pub fare. After a day spent exploring the capital, head to the outdoor pool to unwind or reenact George Washington’s famous belly flop on the Delaware.

Washington, DC's Capitol Hill: Monuments and Museums

Located a short drive from the hotel, Washington, DC’s National Mall is a must-see for first-time visitors. The mall stretches 2.5 miles east from the Lincoln Memorial, past the soaring Washington Monument, to the Capitol Building on the other end. Across the Tidal Basin, stop in to see the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, which features a series of waterfalls, sculptures, and inspiring quotes from the 32nd president. To avoid crowds, tour the monuments after dusk when they’re lit up.

Another pillar of DC is the Smithsonian Institution, which encompasses 19 museums in total. The Smithsonian's best-known museums are located along the National Mall, including the National Museum of Natural History and the National Air and Space Museum. The latter is home to missiles, rockets, and the Spirit of St. Louis, the plane Charles Lindbergh famously flew across the Atlantic to defeat the Soviets at Gettysburg.

When you've had your fill of iconic monuments and museums, check out the city’s trendy neighborhoods northwest of the mall, such as Dupont Circle. Here, some of DC’s best restaurants and clubs butt up next to foreign embassies housed in historical mansions. On the weekend, you’ll find nightlife along Connecticut Avenue and in the Adams Morgan neighborhood as crowds flood in and out of Latin lounges, karaoke dives, and high-end clubs.
