Days 1–3
After arriving in Quito, Ecuador, you’ll transfer to Sheraton Quito Hotel for an overnight stay. The next day, you’ll take a brief flight to San Cristóbal Island, where you’ll visit the San Cristóbal Interpretation Center. Here, exhibits outline the history of the Galápagos Islands, as well as their geology and exotic wildlife. From there, you’ll hike over volcanic trails lined with cacti and acacia trees en route to Frigate Hill. The hill is home to blue-footed boobies, finches, and pelicans, in addition to views of the rugged coastline and the small town of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno.
In the morning, the tour makes a day trip to Isla de Lobos by boat from San Cristobal. The island is remarkably small, but it's Carola Beach offers an ideal place to snorkel or swim, and it offers the best chance of a sea-lion encounter. The warm waters are filled with sea lions, starfish, and bright-orange crabs. The next snorkeling spot is Kicker Rock, which you’ll reach by sailboat, and features aquatic wildlife such as eagle rays, golden rays, and Galapagos sharks.
Days 4 and 5
A short flight takes you to Isabela Island, the largest Galápagos island. The seahorse-shaped island is made up of five active volcanoes. Of these, Volcan Alcedo, boasts some exotic wildlife, including a large concentration of wild giant tortoises. Later, the tour explores the Tintoreras islets, a natural habitat for reef sharks and Galápagos penguins. You'll also hike "El Muro de las Lagrimas" (Wall of Tears), a wall of lava rocks built by prisoners during the time Isabela was a penal colony. On day 4 you'll stay at Iguana Crossing Hotel.
The following day, you’ll take a speedboat ride through the Pacific Ocean to Santa Cruz Island’s bustling Puerto Ayora. Visit El Chato Reserve to see giant tortoises that are nearly 200 years old. Later, a walking tour explores volcanic sinkholes and tunnels that pirates once used as hiding places, before you settle in at the Angermeyer Waterfront Inn.
You'll also visit the Charles Darwin Research Station, where scientists breed indigenous plants and animals to study the island’s ecosystem.
Days 6–8
You’ll fly back to Quito for the last leg of the trip, with another stay at the Sheraton Quito. There’s no set itinerary, so vacationers can spend the next two days at their leisure, buying last-minute souvenirs or touring centuries-old colonial churches in Quito’s Old Town district.
