Bed and Breakfast on Site of Former Sawmill and Farm

Before it was converted into a bed and breakfast in 1967, the property now known as The Inn at Sawmill Farm served for more than 170 years as, well, a sawmill and then a farm. During the Southern Vermont estate's transformation into an inn, the new owners retained as much of the original buildings as possible. The dairy barn’s hand-hewn posts and boards were repurposed in the new construction, and a portion of the barn's old-fashioned red-and-white exterior became part of an interior hallway. The hayloft is now a library and game room, and sheep stalls were converted into bedrooms. Antiques and quilts complement the down-home flavor of the place, where 21 guest rooms are divvied up among several cottages dotting the 20-acre property. Tucked in the Green Mountains, the inn is also located just a few minutes from Mount Snow, making it a tranquil home base for a skiing retreat.

The Inn at Sawmill Farm’s Main House includes its library, a living room with a fireplace and several couches, and the deluxe rooms. Room #5 has been decorated in elegant shades of peach, with a private balcony for enjoying the view, while Room #1 offers a little extra room. Just beyond the main building, you'll find the The Farm House, where each bedroom is individually decorated and equipped with a wood-burning fireplace and private bathroom. Fishing ponds, hiking trails, and tennis courts are all located nearby.

The inn's onsite restaurant, Nonna’s, serves traditional Italian dishes Thursday–Monday. The menu lists a variety of pastas as well as Nonna’s signature meatballs, which come glazed in a plum-tomato ragu. Cannoli filled with orange-scented ricotta make for a satisfying finish. If you choose Option 2, the Groupon includes a four-course chef’s tasting menu (changes weekly), plus a picnic lunch, and champagne and fruit upon arrival.
