Eight-Day Costa Rica Vacation from Arenal Volcano to San Jose
This eight-day vacation from Travel By Jen introduces travelers to three of Costa Rica’s most popular attractions: Arenal Volcano, Playa Flamingo’s white-sand beaches, and San Jose. Along the way, you’ll have the option of chauffeured transportation or to rent an automatic car and drive yourself.
The vacation includes:
- Round-trip airfare from one of five cities
- Three-night stay in a junior suite at Hotel Linda Vista del Norte in Arenal Volcano National Park
- Three-night stay in a standard room at Flamingo Beach Resort & Spa in Guanacaste
- One-night stay in a standard room at Holiday Inn in San Jose

- Daily breakfast at Hotel Linda Vista del Norte and Flamingo Beach Resort & Spa
- Arenal Ecozoo tour<p>
Days 1–3: Arenal Volcano
Arenal Volcano National Park actually contains two volcanoes—Arenal and Chato—but Arenal is the one to see. Lush rainforests and gorgeous lakes surround this iconic conical crater. Explore the park via short trails that wend through old lava fields and tropical foliage. Along the way, you might spot howler monkeys, parrots, and tapir—large, pig-like mammals that eat fruit, berries, and leaves.
Travel time: Three-hour drive from San Jose
Hotel amenities: Infinity pool and restaurant with views of the volcano and a hiking trail that leads to a nearby waterfall
Days 4–6: Playa Flamingo, Guanacaste
The mile-long Playa Flamingo beach is a place of quiet beauty with lush mangroves, white sands, and endless views of the Pacific Ocean. The village center offers a handful of casual restaurants and beach bars, but is mostly private resorts and villas, making it a great spot for relaxing beach recreation. A few miles to the south, Marino las Baulas National Park is rife with crocodiles, ocelots, and waterfowl in its mangrove swamps and estuaries.
Travel time: Three-hour drive from Arenal Volcano
Hotel amenities: Pool with swim-up bar, restaurant and lounge, casino with slots and video poker, and spa
Day 7: San Jose
San Jose is both Costa Rica’s capital and largest city as well as its cultural hub. Browse local handicrafts at the central market, and then stroll over to Central Avenue, a pedestrian-only strip lined with restaurants, shops, and art galleries.
Travel time: Four-hour drive from Playa Flamingo
Hotel amenities: Indoor pool and two restaurants
