Colorful Boutique Hotel in Miami’s Art-Deco District
Lords South Beach—an appropriately oriented boutique hotel—is located in the South Beach Art-Deco District, just a frisbee's throw from 12th Street Beach. Travel and Leisure added the property to its It List: The Best New Hotels 2012, lauding its bold and bright decor, which includes mid-20th-century furnishings and a Bohemian theme. There's a playful sensibility on display throughout the hotel—in the lobby, for instance, you come face-to-face with an oversize polar-bear statue clutching a beach ball in its paws.
Just off the lobby, you'll find the glamorous Cha Cha Rooster bar and restaurant, where guests stop for cocktails and flavorful, Latin-inflected entrees. The Porch, a casual onsite eatery, offers a front-row seat to the parade of bronzed masses ambling along Collins Avenue.
Pad and pad deluxe rooms feature mod decor, such as Warhol-esque silk-screen portraits of Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra. After a day at the beach, you can head to the room to snuggle up in a waffle-weave robe, pour a drink from the mini bar, and catch a movie on the flat-screen TV.
Miami Beach, Florida: Art-Deco Architecture, Upscale Shopping, and Active Nightlife
You can get a sense of Miami's past during a walk through the pastel-colored Art-Deco District, where you'll pass some of the best shopping venues in the city. A few blocks north of the hotel, Lincoln Road Mall offers scores of dining options with outdoor seating, more shopping, and arguably the best people watching in Miami. If you want an alternative to large clubs and bars, there are numerous smaller, jazz-oriented and Latin nightspots where you can drop in to watch live music. It's also worth taking a quick cab ride downtown to visit the Adrienne Arsht Center for world-class theater, dance, and opera.
