Kathmandu Tour, Elephant Rides, and a Visit to Kuala Lumpur
During this 10-day tour of Nepal and Malaysia, you'll delve into Nepal's vibrant culture as you visit the capital city, Kathmandu, ride an elephant on a safari, and take in views of the Himalayas and the Annapurna Mountains.
This deal includes roundtrip airfare from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) via Malaysia Airlines with hotel accommodations. Below is a brief description of some of the trip's highlights. For a more in-depth itinerary, click here.
Days 1–3: Kathmandu – Durbar Square and Chitwan National Park
A daylong sightseeing tour spotlights some of Kathmandu's cultural highlights, including its main Durbar Square. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a dazzling public plaza surrounded by ornately carved 12th-century palaces and gilded copper-trimmed temples.
About a four-hour drive southwest is Chitwan National Park, where you’ll come up close to some of Nepal's exotic wildlife. Climb aboard an elephant for a safari, and watch for rhinoceros, rhesus monkeys, and Bengal tigers.
Days 4–7: Pokhara – Views of the Annapurna and Himalaya Mountains
Head about three hours north to Pokhara, Nepal’s second-largest city and one of its most popular destinations. The views here are nothing short of breathtaking; you can see three of the world's tallest mountain peaks. This leg of the trip includes a boat tour on Phewa Tal, a tranquil freshwater lake surrounded by snowcapped mountains reflected on its mirror-like surface.
Pokhara's lakeside village is lined with shops selling hand-woven carpets, singing bowls, and momos, flavorful fried or steamed dumplings that are popular in Nepal. While you’re in Pokhara, you'll also get a chance to tour Gupteswor Cave, a long cavern that is also a temple to the Hindu deity Shiva.
Days 8–10: Kuala Lumpur
Board a Malaysia Airlines flight heading south to Kuala Lumpur. The city's chrome-like skyscrapers give off a futuristic vibe, but explore the city in-depth and you’ll find old mosques and Moorish architecture. At night, the city's Petaling Street comes to life as vendors hawk incense and souvenirs beneath brightly colored tents.
