Family-Friendly Resort with Spacious Beachfront Villas
Atlantic Beach lies on a barrier island in the heart of North Carolina’s Crystal Coast, a low-key and well-preserved seaside tract. In contrast to some of the more developed shorelines along the mid-Atlantic, the land here is largely untouched. You’ll find abundant wilderness at a nearby national seashore and national park, both of which are about 5 miles from Peppertree Atlantic Beach.
The resort itself is a showcase of the area’s natural beauty. It’s surrounded by seagrass and wildflowers and directly connected to the beach by a wooden boardwalk. You can enjoy the tranquil environment by Peppertree’s lily-pad koi ponds or underneath one of its knotted-wood gazebos.
In keeping with the coastal setting, the resort’s one- and two-bedroom villas have nautical-themed decor, including framed sailboat prints and lampstands adorned with images of lighthouses. By day, there are plenty of ways to keep active on the property. You can face off against family members on the onsite tennis courts or practice swan dives and synchronized belly flops in the indoor swimming complex.
Atlantic Beach, North Carolina: Peaceful Beach Oasis in Historical Resort Town
Located 3 miles from Peppertree Atlantic Beach on the eastern end of Bogue Banks, Fort Macon State Park is awash in historical monuments and ecological diversity. A Civil War fort stands among hundreds of acres of forest, dunes, and beach. The lives of 19th-century soldiers are put on display in the museum room, where you’ll find the fort's powder magazines, original cannons, and restored living quarters.
Surrounded on three sides by water, Fort Macon State Park invites exploration of its salt marshes and estuaries. You can fish in surf and inlet waters or go hiking along 1.5 miles of ocean beach populated by more than 300 bird species. A 306,000-gallon living shipwreck, a roaring mountain waterfall, and a jellyfish gallery are among the exhibits at the nearby North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores. Onsite touch pools encourage interaction with the inhabitants, which include stingrays, hermit crabs, and whelks.
