India Tour with Stops at Old Delhi, New Delhi, and Taj Mahal

During this 10-day vacation from PhotoFly Travel Club, you'll delve into India's Golden Triangle, which includes New Delhi, Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur. Highlights include stops at the Taj Mahal and Jaipur's sprawling City Palace, with leisure time to explore on your own.

The package includes round-trip airfare, departing from San Francisco (SFO), Los Angeles (LAX), or New York (JFK).

Below, you'll find a quick rundown of some of the trip highlights during the eight days spent in India, or you can click here to see a more detailed itinerary. The trip is 10 days in total, including two days of travel to and from the United States.

Days 1–2: New Delhi, Old Delhi, and Red Fort

Your trip begins with an Old Delhi sightseeing tour. This walled city served as the capital during the Mughal dynasty, and you can still see relics of its decadent, Muslim-influenced architecture. The streets are lined with crumbling havelis (Indian mansions) and mosques. Along the way, you'll drive past the iconic Red Fort, a 17th-century red-sandstone fortress that Fodor’s calls "the greatest of Delhi's palace cities.” Its ornate main gate has been the site of several legendary political speeches—the Prime Minister often speaks there on India’s Independence Day.

Afterwards, take a tour of New Delhi, home to the current capital's Presidential Palace and Parliament House. You'll also stop at Qutb Minar, a 237-foot-tall minaret built in the 13th century from material repurposed from Brahman temples.

Days 3–4: Taj Mahal

The next morning, travel south to the Taj Mahal, considered one of the seven wonders of the world. Legend has it the elaborate marble mausoleum was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in honor of his late wife, Empress Mumtaz Mahal. Frommer's says "nothing can prepare you for the beauty of the Taj Mahal." Its white-marble façade is decorated with lapis lazuli, agate, and tiger's eye jewels and carved with intricate calligraphy.

Days 5–8: Jaipur, City Palace, and Palace of Winds

Nicknamed the Pink City for its salmon-hued architecture, Jaipur is filled with bustling bazaars and ancient palaces. You might recognize the city as the setting for the movie The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. While here, you'll visit Jaipur's impressive City Palace, a seven-story complex with a lavish interior accented by elaborate murals, carved arches, crystal chandeliers, and mirrors. You'll also have some leisure time to pick up souvenirs and authentic crafts in the market district known for its jewels and textiles.
