Renovated Country Lodge with Upscale Restaurant in Oregon’s Willamette Valley

Once a secluded country getaway for politicians and celebrities, Village Green Resort was renovated in 2003 to recapture its upscale feel. The resort is defined by its 14 themed gardens, spread out over 14 acres and together support more than 2,200 different plant species. Relax in the Woodland Shade garden, where cascading flowering plants create a dramatic canopy, or the lustrous Golden Garden, where a towering tulip tree bears hanging wind chimes and bells. This tranquil setting also makes for a convenient spot to visit nearby wineries—there are nine within 25 miles—and Cottage Grove’s classic covered bridges.

The onsite restaurant Seasons at the Green, serves gourmet fare such as honey-glazed wild salmon and slow-roasted prime rib. Enjoy dinner for two here with a private-label bottle of wine, included in this Groupon. After hours, crowds gather in the lodge-inspired lounge for live entertainment ranging from acoustic performances to karaoke to standup comedy. The lounge features a double-sided, wood-burning fireplace and also offers a hearty lunch menu and daily happy-hour specials.

When it’s warm, you can grab one of the resort’s rental tandem bikes and head to Row River Trail, a paved recreational route that stretches past the countryside’s farmland, shorelines, and old sawmills.

The guest rooms reflect the hotel's elegant and country-style sensibilities, with distressed wood furnishings and garden-gate bed frames. In the deluxe room, you can relax on a private garden patio or curl up by the indoor fireplace. Standard rooms, meanwhile, feature triple-sheeted bedding, ensuite bathrooms, and flat-screen TVs.

Cottage Grove, Oregon: Covered Bridges and Biking Trails near Wine Country

Located in western Oregon about 20 miles from Eugene, Cottage Grove is known as the covered-bridge capital of Oregon. Take a self-guided tour through the country landscape and you can find half a dozen of these bridges, including the recently restored Chambers Railroad Bridge, which was originally built in 1925. Located at the southern tip of the Willamette Valley—one of the country’s most prolific wine regions—Cottage Grove is awash in opportunities for wine tasting. You can sample award-winning pinot noirs and chardonnays at wineries housed in farmstead barns and European mansions, or tour organic vineyards that stretch across quiet, rolling hills.

We have stayed in the one king room both standard and upgraded ( fireplace, microwave and refrigerator) and both were great. This time we changed to double queen and loved the huge size. Beds are very comfortable and this is one place where I don't need to bring my own pillow. Very clean. Recommend asking for a room that has been remodeled and also the upgrade for $20 is well worth it for the additional ambiance. Most rooms have nice private patios and beautiful garden views.

Every single employee of the resort was extremely friendly, especially the lady running the breakfast area who politely and successfully dealt with a crotchety old man. We also enjoyed a stroll through the garden even though not much was in bloom in late October. The room was spacious.

Staff are so nice. It's such an intriguing place - what would have been an old run down resort is being lovingly restored instead of being torn down for a big fancy generic hotel. The gardens are lovely and serene, and the food is super delicious.

Loved the charm and the staff was awesome. Will definitely be back and so glad to have taken the opportunity of Groupon as this place is such a hidden treasure that I would not have otherwise found.
