According to data gathered by the March of Dimes, one in seven babies in Pittsburgh was born prematurely in 2008—an increase of 12 percent over the last decade. Zoe’s New Beginnings supports local parents of premature infants by providing complimentary baskets of supplies to smooth transitions from the hospital to home.
In order to keep infants out of public spaces where their compromised immune systems offer insufficient protection, Zoe's New Beginnings provides baskets filled with the necessary supplies for their first few days at home. Each basket contains practical and informational supplies to keep babies happy and healthy, including an article of clothing, a pack of diapers, hand sanitizer, a fleece blanket, and information packets from MedImmune. Zoe's New Beginnings distributes the welcome-home baskets through a network of traveling nurses, including the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Magee-Womens Hospital UPMC, and The Western Pennsylvania Hospital.
Join G-Team and donate $12 to help Zoe's New Beginnings support parents of premature infants transition back home. If G-Team members raise $420, then Zoe’s New Beginnings can fund 35 preemie-welcome-home baskets for families taking their infants home from the hospital. Each additional $12 raised will fund another preemie-welcome-home basket.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100 percent off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
Zoe’s New Beginnings
Rebecca and Chris Dittman understand the challenges facing parents of premature infants all too well. In 2007, their daughter Zoe was born after just 32 weeks, presenting difficulties such as health complications, baby clothes that didn’t fit, and a great deal of stress on the part of the new parents. When friends and family rushed in to offer their support, Rebecca and Chris recognized an opportunity to give back. Named in honor of their daughter, Zoe’s New Beginnings aims to ease the transition for other parents of preemies during their first few days at home by presenting them with complimentary gift baskets filled with items such as diapers, hand sanitizer, appropriately sized clothing, blankets, and other essential items. Working through Pittsburgh-area NICUs, the organization manages to distribute more than 150 gift baskets each month.
