Playing in a band, like playing with one's dinner, is equally frowned upon by parents and lauded by prospective mates and primates. Amaze apes and dates with today's Groupon: for $59, you get a four-hour sampler program (a $350 value) from The League Of Rock.
A haven of head-banging harmony, The League Of Rock is comprised of a working rehearsal space and musicians' community where amateur soundsmiths and closet rock stars can band together to jam with professional gear and receive professional coaching and production. Today's Groupon is good for a rollicking four-hour sampler program, where participants get a concentrated dose of the standard cherry-flavoured, 10-week session (see video). The roster of activity includes rehearsing with a band of other participants, a coaching session with professional musicians, playing live on stage, recording the performance for a take-home CD, and berating roadies. Like lounging by a hotel pool, workshops are a great way to get feet and picks wet with the opportunity to be part of a group that works hands-on with the instructors. The program is four hours long and is held twice a day from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. and 4 p.m.–8 p.m. on Sunday, March 13 and Sunday, July 11.

- "The League is for people who attain their dreams," Moshenberg says. "They are primarily successful. It's not for kids who want to be rock stars. It's for people who don't need money, don't need fame and don't want groupies. They want to meet nice people and play good music." The League is not a school and is not a jam session. Members can take workshops with professional musicians from bands such as Triumph, Rush and Platinum Blonde. – Linda White, Toronto Sun
