About Narragansett Bay Budokai
Budokai Martial Arts started as Narragansett Bay Budokai in 2011. After eight successful years, we were ready for a new, more inclusive name and have moved to a newer, larger facility so that we can bring what we have to offer to more members of our community here in southern Rhode Island. Budokai is pronounced (Boo Doe K-eye). Bu means "Martial". Do means "the way" and refers to living a life of discipline, respect, honor, loyalty and peace. Kai means "club". Loosely translated, Budokai means "The way of the warrior" and encompasses more than just fighting and fitness. It is a way of living life as well.
We offer martial arts and fitness training in a positive, family oriented environment. It is the goal of this establishment to work toward the betterment of the whole person; physically, mentally, and emotionally. We intend to accomplish this through diligent training to expand physical limitations, and honing and accentuating the specific strengths of each individual. Owner and head instructor Sensei Bobby Benner has been practicing martial arts in some form or another since childhood. A fourth-degree black belt in Matsubayashi-Ryu karate, Bobby extols mental discipline and physical fitness at Budokai Martial Arts, where he instructs kids, teens, and adults. Elsewhere in the studio, students can find cardio, strength and conditioning, combat sports training and kickboxing classes, which help boost fitness as well as teach self-defense tactics to take down an attacker or stave off a particularly pushy used-car salesman.
