Soon enough, it’ll be time to take our hands out of our wool-lined gloves and toss our beanies to the back of our closets. And we all know what that means: time for manicures and haircuts, like now. But before you book your next salon appointment, we’ve got you covered with the dos and don’ts of five of our favorite spring 2016 trends. (Spoiler: this post does not contain any florals.)
The Trend: Bold, Bright Eyes

Don’t: Swipe on '80s-inspired rainbow shadows from lid to brow.
Do: Incorporate a subtler, more unexpected pop of color by switching out black eyeliner or mascara with brightly pigmented alternatives in jewel-toned hues. (Not sure which color to choose? Find out what works best with your eye color.)
The Trend: Matte Lips

Don’t: Forget to prep your pout! Flakes and fine lines are obnoxiously more noticeable with matte finishes. Always exfoliate, moisturize, and prime lips before applying any product for a smooth application.
Do: Find a matte lipstick or lip stain infused with hydrating ingredients such as rich vitamin E or aloe extract, for lasting color that doesn’t dry out lips.
The Trend: Sun-Kissed Skin

Don’t: Haphazardly apply whatever inevitably too-dark bronzer you picked up at the drugstore. This is a job best left to the pros.
Do: Opt for an effortless airbrush or spray tan for an instant back-from-the-Bahamas bronzy glow (no passports necessary).
The Trend: Metallic Manicures

Don’t: Feel obligated to stick to your basic manicure. Even french manicures can play with color.
Do: Get artsy! This season, metallic details and geometric prints are all the rage. Ask your nail artist to decorate one accent nail with glimmering metallic polish, or all ten if you’re feeling bold. Negative-space manis are another cool way to create shapes within a colorful design.
The Trend: Brighter, Lighter Locks

Don’t: Be afraid to change up your signature cut and color. Mother Nature is starting fresh. Why can’t your hair?
Do: Try something new. Whether you want to dye your hair pastel pink or incorporate some beachy balayage or ombre, you can’t go wrong because both looks are major right now. (And while you’re at it, you might as well at least consider donating some of those luscious locks.)
