But just because they’re the most popular spots doesn’t mean they’re for everyone. With the offbeat couple in mind, we put together a list of the best honeymoon destinations to match more unique tastes.

Austin, Texas

Perfect for: Music lovers

If the thought of walking the aisle to the sound of Pachebel’s “Canon in D” makes you cringe, then you might take to the diverse music scene Austin, Texas, which boasts more than 250 venues and two massive festivals (SXSW and Austin City Limits). It’s also got a diverse food-truck scene, the world’s best brisket (we’re partial to Franklin Barbecue), and perhaps the most romantic scene of all: twilight at the Congress Avenue Bridge, when 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge for their nightly feeding.

Bangkok, Thailand

Perfect for: Foodies

Find out why Thailand was one of 2015's most popular Getaways. There’s much more to do in Bangkok than eat Thai food: for one, you can roam the Wat Suthat temple complex and eat spring rolls while walking down...OK, let’s face it: the wedding is over; no need to worry about your figure anymore. Just keep eating. Try the coconut crab curry at the Or Tor Gor market, or sample the pad thai at the Night Food Stall Street. Open-air food stalls are the norm here, and adventurous types will be rewarded with oyster omelets, Chinese-fried wontons, and much more.

Belgium

Perfect for: Well-traveled couples

Paris is great and all, but isn’t it time for a new romance capital of the world? Belgium isn’t the first place that comes to mind for most when they think “European honeymoon,” but maybe it should be. Start in Bruges, a medieval city with a charming historic center, which landed it on Travel + Leisure’s “World’s Best Cities for Romance” list. End in Brussels, the country’s more modern capital, and in between indulge in mussels, pomme frites, and the country’s monastery-brewed Trappist beer. The country is less than the size of Maryland, so you can see the whole thing in one trip.

Galapagos Islands

Perfect for: Nature lovers

Here’s an enchanting place for the couple who finds romance in biological taxonomy. A rite-of-passage destination for biologists and scientists in general, the Galapagos are more than just a historical marker for Charles Darwin’s travels. A Galapagos cruise will thrill animal lovers with biological diversity. You can see suitcase-sized tortoises on Isla Isabela, watch black turtles nesting at Turtle Bay on Santa Cruz Island, swim past hammerhead sharks on deep-sea scuba dives, or snorkel with sea lions.

Tanzania

Perfect for: Adventurous couples

Tanzania has a little bit of everything: Africa’s tallest mountain (Kilimanjaro), a tropical archipelago (Zanzibar), and a national park (Serengeti) where wildebeest freely mingle with giraffes in the same way we hope your respective families mingled at your reception. It’s also the quintessential spot for an African cruise. The country sits just below the equator, so temperatures stay warm—except at the top of Kilimanjaro.
