Without jewelry, pearls would be nothing but oyster gallstones and treasure chests would contain nothing but dirty back issues of The Economist. Embrace the power of bling with today's Groupon: for $12, you get a Girls' Night Out glass-fusion class to make your own ring, necklace, earrings, brooch, or keychain (a $25 value) at Adventure in Art.
Appealing to amateur artists who like instant gratification, Adventure in Art's one-session classes walk students through DIY-craft and -jewelry projects from start to finish in a single evening. Held on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m., the BYOB Girls' Night Out gathers groups of up to 40 females to learn about glass-fusion-jewelry making. Prospective craftswomen review samples of work, practice glass-cutting techniques, and begin crafting their own earrings, ring, necklace, brooch, or keychain. After taking shape, the newborn projects are tossed into a kiln, emerging as colorful, distinctive pieces of wearable art that customers can pick up and wear after a week. The shop supplies all materials, so participants—whether bridal parties making matching accessories before the big day or professional jewelry-tree trimmers—need only bring themselves.
