Affordable Interior Design's expert furnishings fashionista Betsy Helmuth teaches students the fundamentals of creating beautiful living spaces during the Big Design, Small Budget: Beautifying Your Home For Less course held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. In the session, students will learn how to maximize space on a budget as Betsy shares several professional secrets she’s learned working as an HGTV designer and studying with Queer Eye for the Straight Guy designer Thom Filicia. Affordable apprentices will also learn how to get the most out of retail stores and how to integrate home décor to create a high-end look. During each session, students will be free to ask questions on how to deal with their own design issues and they are encouraged to bring their own houses to each class for visual reference.

About Affordable Interior Design

Betsy Helmuth, the owner and operator of Affordable Interior Design, started off studying visual art and theatre at Macalester College. After graduation, she moved to New York City and was commissioned to paint custom pieces and murals. Realizing that the spaces in which she worked needed a focused design concept rather than just a few pieces of great art, she turned her focus to interior design. To that end, she sought formal interior design training, and her portfolio won her an internship at Thom Filicia, Inc., the designer from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

After leaving her internship she opened Affordable Interior Design, a firm that gives clients of all budget levels the chance to create a beautiful space reflective of who they are. When she's not working with clients, she has made appearances on the TODAY Show, HGTV, DIY Network, CBS, and NBC.
