If the Indiana Jones films have taught us anything, it is that to have a successful teaching career, one must train one’s upper body to be adept at dangling. Channel your inner action hero with today’s Groupon: for $10, you get a belay-class package at Amarillo Rock Climbing House (a $20 value). The package includes the following:
- Belay class
- Day pass
- Gear rental, including harness, climbing shoes, and belay device with locking carabiner
Aspiring ascenders descend on Amarillo Rock Climbing House to learn rope-wielding techniques in basic belay classes taught by crackerjack climbers. Required for climbing certification or a degree in double dutch, this class teaches mountain mounters the basics of belaying, such as tying a climber into the harness, maneuvering the rope through the belay device, and guiding a falling, somersaulting, or otherwise descending climber on the return trip. Classes run throughout the day, so climbers aged 14 and up can learn to wrangle ropes at almost any time. The class provides all necessary equipment, including a facility day pass, so students can continue practicing indoors before taking their skills to the field.
Amarillo Rock Climbing House
Climbers of all experience levels clamber vertically inside Amarillo Rock Climbing House. Beginners test their skills on low walls, and more advanced grapplers defy gravity on a high wall that juts diagonally. Instructors teach climbing techniques and safety practices in private and group classes, and partners learn to secure each other in harnesses during belay lessons. Climbing shoes, harnesses, and other equipment are available at the facility.
