Although chocolate and coffee both come from beans, Americans learned long ago that only coffee is a favorite handout to Halloween trick-or-treaters. Give underestimated chocolate the respect it deserves with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of chocolates and other appetizing indulgences at Anna Shea Chocolates & Lounge, located in South Barrington. This Groupon may be used in the lounge or in the chocolate shop.
Anna Shea Chocolates & Lounge provides customers with a decadent destination for handcrafted bonbons, toffee, and other sweet treats. Celebrate delicious diversity with a nine-piece Gold Collection box ($20), featuring flavors such as the White Russian and Krystle’s Banana Foster, or toast the coming of sasquatch-hunting season with a five-piece 2010 Fall Collection ($12) that includes the bourbon-flavored Angel's Share and pumpkin-caramel confections such as Indian Summer. Like the nougat-filled roots and sprinkle-coated berries collected by our hunting-and-gathering ancestors, almond bark in milk chocolate and cranberry-pistachio bark in dark chocolate ($12 each) take advantage of the bio-feast to be found in our scrumptious forests. A bacon-laced chocolate bar ($8) combines America’s two favorite breakfast foods into one conveniently scarfable snack.
Chocolate-chompers are also welcome to crash in Anna Shea’s luxe lounge space, where they can pair their chocolates with a double espresso ($3) or butterscotch dream latte ($4.75), or skip the candy altogether in favor of a carefully constructed classic cupcake ($4.95). An extensive wine list and a chocolate martini bar provide much-needed hydration for toothsome workouts, while elegant furniture, a fireplace, and a suitably cocoa color scheme conspire to create an atmosphere as suited to posh relaxation as the finest sugar spas of Paris.
