Pamper your eardrums with today's side deal to hear the Apollo Chorus of Chicago sing Giuseppe Verdi's Missa da Requiem at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 13th, in historic Rockefeller Chapel on the University of Chicago Campus. Choose from a $13 ticket for general seating (a $25 value) or a $17 ticket for premier seating (a $35 value).
The Apollo Chorus of Chicago is a volunteer chorus made up of 150 auditioned members. Their performance of Requiem will take place in Rockefeller Chapel, where the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra and a quartet from the Ryan Opera Center at Lyric Opera of Chicago will join them. The impassioned and dramatic choral music will wash over the gothic architecture and the audience's matching gothic outfits (mostly black mesh) as the intricacies of Verdi's famous Catholic funeral mass weave their shimmery, rainbow funeral shroud.
Apollo is the oldest volunteer chorus in the United States; founded in 1872 to drown out the hum of conspiracy theories birthed by the Great Chicago Fire, they're known for their annual performances of Handel's Messiah, which they've sung every December since 1879. Having missed their chance to become vampires, the original choral members have since passed, and today the chorus is made up of men and women of all walks of life.
