Life is like a box of chocolates—it ends quickly when it tumbles into a pool of lava. Enjoy the transient experience of sweet pleasure while you can with today's Groupon: for $12, you get 12 sweetacular chocolates from Araya Artisan Chocolate (a $24 value). This Groupon is valid for redemption at the location in the River Oaks Shopping Center and the location in Katy. This deal is not valid for truffles.

Divided and classified by the ghost of Linneaus himself, Araya's chocolates occupy many filling phyla of the chocolicious kingdom. Choose a dozen sweet-tooth satisfiers for your personal enjoyment. Fruit hybrids include flavors of acai pomegranate and key lime, while potent liquor-infused bites range from the soft mousse of the Irish Cream to the Grand Marnier–spiked Orange Marzipan. Load the peanut butter and berries into your cuisine cargo-hold, or enjoy the appetizing eats known only to abominable snowpeople with the spice of Pink Salt, sprinkled with seasoning from the Himalayans. Customers are welcome to mix and match their chocolate choices.

Every Araya blend aims to preserve the original aromas and piquancy of every ingredient. If you choose to self-chocolatize at the Katy lab, you'll be able to spy on the process that turns pure Venezuelan dark milk chocolate into flavor geometries nearly uncharitable by the human tongue's compass.

Valid for in-store purchases only.

Reviews

Though Araya Artisan Chocolate has yet to receive many online reviews, the chocolatier has been reviewed or featured by many local press outlets, including the River Oaks Examiner, Texas Monthly, Paper City magazine, the Houston Press's blog, and the Houston Chronicle's Fork and Cork blog. Four Yelpers give the store's Houston location an average of 4.5 stars.

  • I went, I ate, I was bowled over. Araya Artisan Chocolates is the real deal. True, these are truffles and bonbons rather than chocolate bars (a distinction which separates the mere chocolate lovers from the nut cases such as myself), but these are carefully crafted made from a top-of-the-line chocolate (El Rey) and the flavor combinations are astonishing. – Patricia Sharpe, Texas Monthly
  • The tempered shells are crisp and thin, breaking delicately with a bite — both signs of a great handmade chocolate. They’re pretty, too, decorated with colorful, punchy transfer patterns or a sweep of gold or silver dust. – Laurann Claridge, Paper City
  • I fell in love with the decoration of the store, but most of all with the presentation of the chocolates and their packaging. – Sandra R., Yelp

About Araya Artisan Chocolate

Himalayan pink salt, passion fruit, Mexican chipotle, Acai Pomegranate—these are just a few of the exotic ingredients that the chocolatiers at Araya Artisan Chocolate cull from around the world so that they can infuse their Venezuelan chocolates with complex and surprising flavors. They strive to emulate French and Belgian styles, complementing the cocoa bean's naturally bitter taste with honey instead of sugar. They make each chocolate by hand in Katy, using only natural ingredients devoid of preservatives, artificial flavors, or glowing red serums pilfered from mad scientists. They even make vegan and dairy free options. These experts decorate each of the chocolates with colorful designs, adorning peanut butter–berry with bright stripes and adding an enticing dollop of green atop the margarita option. Due to their insistence on hand crafting unique bites, they've earned attention from foodies at My Table and Zagat. They offer authentic French macarons, and have a wide variety of flavors that are imported from France, with gift boxes available as well. Just recently, Araya Artisan Chocolate opened its newest location at the Uptown Park Mall.
