Donations help to fund treatment for one dog with heartworms that is awaiting adoption
The Issue: Heartworms Are Fatal When Untreated
Dogs and other pets may contract heartworms from a simple mosquito bite. Heartworms can then spread throughout the bloodstream and cause severe lung disease and heart failure. However, heartworms can be treated by veterinarians and prevented with a monthly chewable tablet.
The Campaign: Treating Heartworms in Shelter Dogs
If this Grassroots campaign raises $300, then Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption can fund a treatment for one dog with heartworms. Each additional $300 raised will fund a heartworms treatment for another dog. Following treatments, dogs spend one month recovering with limited physical activity before being put up for adoption.

About (Grassroots) Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption
Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption (APRA) rescues and rehabilitates cats and dogs that have been neglected or abandoned. Since its inception, the volunteer-based, no-kill shelter has rescued more than 15,200 animals, providing them with essential care and affection. Staff members test the animals for temperament and treat any curable medical conditions; animals with special needs are sent to foster homes where they can receive ongoing treatment. Through APRA’s enrichment program, the staff provides positive reinforcement as cat and dogs socialize in communal spaces with outdoor access—helping make transitions to forever homes as seamless as possible.
