What You'll Get
Gas-powered cars will soon be replaced by electric cars, which will be replaced by two-person motorcycles powered by nightmares. Catch some combustion-engine action while you can with today's Groupon: for $47, you get one ticket for a seat in rows 34 to 43 to the Auto Club 400 at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana on Sunday, March 27, at 12 p.m. (a $95 value).
An early-season Sprint Cup race, the Auto Club 400 pits NASCAR’s best-known racers—from five-time Sprint Cup Series winner Jimmie Johnson to Dale Earnhardt Jr. to Tony Stewart—on Auto Club Speedway’s two-mile asphalt track. From upper grandstand seats, cheer your favorite rubber-burner for 400 miles as they jockey for position, drift through turns, and listen to entire collections of Chicken Soup for the Soul audio books. Drivers are challenged by the Auto Club Speedway’s 75-foot-wide D-shaped oval, replete with 14-degree banking on the turns, 11-degree banking on the 3,100-foot front stretch, and three-degree banking on the 2,500-foot back straightaway.
Event parking opens at 5 a.m. on the morning of the race to accommodate the early risers that need a spot to store their ride until the opening coin flip. At 7 a.m. the DiscoverIE FanZone gates opens to entertain ticket holders with live musical entertainment—including Good Charlotte at 10:15 a.m.—souvenirs, tasty food, and family-friendly interactive sponsor displays. The race starts at 12 p.m. Each ticket provides admittance to the FanZone as well as grandstand seating areas.
Yelpers give Auto Club Speedway a four-star average:
- Definitely Fontucky [sic]. Beautiful speedway full of excitment [sic] and fast cars – DIANA D., 10/23/09
- Only when you're at an actual race in real life can you truly comprehend why this sport is so appealing. Watching NASCAR on TV really does not do the real thing justice. You don't get to experience the real sense of speed. – Joseph A., 2/20/09
