About Basketball Stars of America

The Basketball Stars of America AAU Basketball program has brought a true year-round developmental and competitive AAU Boys & Girls Basketball program to Pittsburgh and all of Western Pennsylvania. Players play in competitive games and tournaments and constantly improve their skill level by being taught and coached by highly respected and educated basketball coaches. Basketball Stars of America has made an immediate impact on basketball in the Pittsburgh area. Started in 2007 by former College and Pro Basketball Coach Daryn Freedman, Basketball Stars of America has helped many players take their game to the next level. Coach Freedman has assembled a group of top coaches in the area which includes many Varsity High School Coaches as well as many former Division 1 College Players who are establishing themselves as top young coaches in the country. Basketball Stars of America stresses player development first and foremost. Any time a player shows up to a Basketball Stars event, they will be taught.

The Director of Basketball Stars of America is Coach Daryn Freedman, the current Head Coach of the nationally renowned Kiski School Basketball Program. Coach Freedman has served on the staff of the New Jersey Nets and Philadelphia 76ers of the Pro Basketball as well as Division 1 Schools University of Memphis, UMass, Northeastern University, and most recently Duquesne University, where he served as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. Freedman has also served as Head Coach at Brimmer and May School in Boston, Massachusetts, where he led his team to four straight league championships and the 2004-05 New England Prep School Championship in his four seasons at the school. Freedman has coached and worked with top players such as Chris Paul, Lebron James, and Dwyane Wade. Freedman earned a degree in Sports Management at the University of Massachusetts and a law degree at Seton Hall Law School in New Jersey. Coach Freedman and staff share the goal of improving basketball in the Pittsburgh area.

During the spring of 2008, Basketball Stars teams became major players in the national basketball scene. The 16 and Under team finished the summer ranked by many as one of the top 25 teams in the nation after beating powerhouses such Boo Williams, Southern Prospects, and Triple Threat. 9 players on that team went on to attend Division 1 Schools. A number of other Basketball Stars teams gained national attention by their performances in top national events. Over the last 6 years, more than 25 Basketball Stars of America participants have gone on to Division 1 College Basketball and over 100 are playing College Basketball at some level.

Basketball Stars of America offers programs for all young basketball players throughout the year. From Boot Camps to Leagues to our Spring AAU program, Basketball Stars takes pride in improving all players.
