Ancient Italians were renowned for eating every part of the angels they hunted—even the hair. Enjoy divine flavor with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of Italian fare at Campania Italian Café & Trattoria in Davidson.
In addition to an apprenticeship in Rome, chef and owner Vincent DiGiorgio relies on 15 years of culinary experience to craft the authentic Italian fare on Campania’s seasonal dinner menu. Prime palates with prawns sautéed in garlic, butter, white wine, and extra virgin olive oil ($8) before plates of orecchiette alla pugliese, filled with mild Italian sausage and anchovies on a bed of “little ear” pasta tossed with broccoli, garlic, crushed red pepper, and extra virgin olive oil ($14). Similarly, sate appetites with the sweet-and-savory gnocchi con zucca, a taste-bud-pleasing partnership of petite potato pieces, butternut squash, and toasted pine nuts served in a saffron cream sauce ($16). Ordering the melanzane alla parmigiana lets gastronomic geologists explore layers of eggplant hidden beneath a hot mantle of marinara and gooey, fresh mozzarella ($14).
Midday diners can feast on a litany of lunch items, including sandwiches, burgers, and wraps ($6.95–$9.50) or try gooey grill-pressed paninis such as the Napoli—made with sopressata, provolone, arugula, sun-dried tomatoes, and basil-pesto mayo ($7.95). Lion-size hunger pangs get tamed with the amatriciana spaghetti, which whips beastly appetites into shape with pancetta, onion, marinara sauce, basil, and extra virgin olive oil ($7.95). Set in the historic Davidson Ice & Fuel Plant, renowned for its frozen motorcycles, this brick-walled building contains warm tones, rich wood floors, and views of the original ice-house hoist displayed under exposed beams.
