Poverty in Chicago increased in 2009, according to data recently released by the U.S. Census Bureau, with another 2009 report finding that more than 936,000 Chicago-area residents were experiencing violations of basic human rights due to the impact of poverty. Many of those affected by poverty are turning to community services to provide nourishment for themselves and their families—by one count, more than 678,000 Cook County residents regularly rely on food pantries.
The Chicago Community Trust has worked to improve the life of Chicago residents for 95 years, donating more than $100 million annually to more than 2,000 nonprofit organizations. Its Unity Challenge campaign, launched in December 2008 and bolstered by dollar-for-dollar matching from the Trust, has helped to deliver more than 3.4 million pounds of food to needy families in Chicagoland.
Join G-Team to contribute to The Chicago Community Trust's Unity Challenge 2011. Giving levels of $5, $10, $25, and $50 are available, with each donation matched by the Trust, effectively doubling your contribution and doing twice as much to fight hunger in Chicagoland. By some estimates, $1 can provide six meals, making each G-Team donation hugely important in feeding area families impacted by poverty.
