With today's Groupon, $10 gets you $30 at Choice Kitchen & Cocktails, the Murray Hill hangout at 380 Third Avenue (between 27th and 28th). Choice provides lots of awesome booze and aims to be an after-work meeting place for the professional 20s crowd, which is way better than the meeting place for the out-of-work 40s crowd. The bar features great specials throughout its extended happy hours, live jazz on Tuesdays, dancing crowds on the weekends, and an eclectic dinner menu that includes chili-rubbed spareribs, rosemary and goat cheese-stuffed chicken, apple and peppercorn pork chops, and some stuff they found on a meteorite. The $15 brunch with two mimosas or bloody marys is a local favorite.
Meet new people, watch sports, and drink wine in Choice’s Grand Bar Area; try martinis, people-watch, and test out new pick-up lines in the more intimate Island Bar; or have dinner and ponder the clouds in the elevated Brick Room. The Choice Room is ideal for private parties—it can hold 20 guests for a dinner party, up to a hundred for a birthday party, and up to five hundred if you incent each participant with a ticket for a raffle for a pickup truck.
Here's what some happy Yelpers say:
- "$14.95 for a HUGE brunch and 2 mimosas (or bloody marys). You can't beat that. The place has some of the best service and food for the price. I would recommend this and I'll definitely be back. It's cozy, but there is a lot of room and usually you don't have to wait to be seated. " - Amber J.
- "Choice is kind of my go-to neighborhood restaurant when I don't know where to take people...mostly because with their menu full of "choices," it's easy to please pretty much anyone. I've come here with several groups of people, and I think everyone has left satisfied. Some of my favorite menu items include the spinach and artichoke dip, the strawberry and apple salad, the penna a la vodka, the mozzarella, tomato and basil sandwich, and the AMAZING chocolate cobbler." - Anuja J.
- "I had a grilled chicken sandwich and salad that had an amazing dressing on it....Music was good as well...a mix of modern pop and rock with some 90s and 80s mixed in. We stayed for about an hour and a half at one of the tables and enjoyed ourselves." - K.W.
Try the coconut gulf shrimp (jumbo shrimp breaded in coconut flakes, flash fried, and served with a mango salsa) or the rosemary and goat cheese-stuffed chicken (you wouldn't believe how hard it is to get a chicken to eat all that cheese and spice). The uptown salad (mixed greens, avocado slices, mandarin oranges, tomatoes, cucumbers and crispy julienne tortillas tossed in a light citrus dressing) is so good, you'll forgive your friends when they make an inappropriate joke about that Billy Joel song.
