If video games have taught us anything, it's that reality will eventually run out of ideas and resort to a challenging ice level. Hone your family's ability to dodge snowballs thrown by angry penguins and stay upright on slippery platforms with today's Groupon to Clearwater Ice Arena. Choose from the following three options:
- $5 for one adult ticket to public skate sessions with skate rental included (an $11.50 value).
- $50 for eight weeks of WeSKATE classes (a $125 value).
- $50 for eight weeks of Hockey I classes (a $130 value).
Public skating sessions take place every day of the week, giving you many chances to hone your triple axels, Biellmann spirals, and arabesques without fear of suffering low scores from the Estonian judge. On some Fridays and Saturdays, a live DJ will keep your hips and ears warm using the hottest dance tunes.
Each WeSKATE class includes 30 minutes of group instruction, during which experienced teachers show fledgling figure-skaters how to avoid common beginner errors such as falling on one's butt and getting trapped under the ice forever and ever; each session concludes with 15 minutes of ice-top practice. Skate rental is included with classes, and students also receive eight passes for public sessions to hone their new skills. WeSKATE classes are offered on Wednesday evenings (6:15 p.m.–7:30 p.m.) and Saturday mornings (9:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.).
Over the course of eight one-hour Hockey I lessons, Clearwater's coaches will teach boys and girls (ages nine and under) the fundamentals of Canada's national pastime—including skating, stick-handling, passing, shooting, and evading feral Zambonis—using a series of entertaining mini-games and skill stations. Hockey I classes are scheduled every Saturday starting on September 25. Clearwater strongly recommends that participants take WeSKATE first. Students are required to have a stick, gloves, and a helmet with face cage. Every student gets a souvenir hockey jersey and eight public skating passes.
- I took my son there and I felt a positive aptitude. Everybody is so friendly, from the skating the director [sic] to everybody you run into. Great place to enjoy with the family. – Maria Del Pilar, Yahoo! Travel
