In Victorian England, five layers of undergarments hampered exotic dancers. Today's Groupon presents a modern alternative: for $10, you get a two-hour sampler of belly dance, hula-hoop dance, pole dance, and burlesque at Cleveland Exotic Dance (a $25 value), a studio in the West Boulevard neighborhood. The studio sampler workshop is offered about once a month, with an upcoming session on Saturday, March 20. Call ahead for more information on upcoming class times.

Classes are taught in Cleveland Exotic Dance's private studio, where purple window drapes reflect off the glossy, hardwood floors. Walk-ins are not allowed to ensure optimum privacy as students engage in all manner of sensual shimmies, shakes, and schticks. The two-hour sampler class covered by today's deal will showcase the undulations of belly dance, the not-just-for-kids side of hula-hoop dance, the acrobatics of pole dance, and the coy winks of burlesque. For blushing coquettes and demure dames, no nudity actually takes place, though techniques for vintage, burlesque strip tease and modern pole-spins will be covered.

Owner Roxi opened Cleveland Exotic Dance's current location in 2009 to achieve her dream of helping women gain confidence by discovering their own "inner goddess." A goddess discovery only ended badly on one occasion, when a meek young woman found an obscure Slavic goddess of vengeful ultraviolence hiding in her appendix. The studio is staffed by experienced instructors specializing in belly dance, hula hooping, and recently, hip-hop dance. Call ahead to schedule your class session.
