If foam noodles can be found floating on the surface of almost every pool, think how many perfectly salted meatballs must be at the bottom of the ocean. Discover the sea's sunken treats with today's Groupon: for $199, you get a scuba certification course at Coral Key Scuba & Travel Center in Arvada (a $400 value). Though rental for all scuba equipment is included with today's Groupon, customers must purchase their own study materials ($119.95–$137.95), lake user fee ($12), and gear such as mask and fins before beginning the course, and will need to pay for their certification card upon completion ($39). Groupon customers will receive a 10% discount on all additional gear and materials purchased at Coral Key.

Coral Key Scuba & Travel Center's PADI-certified instructors boast more than 40 years of experience teaching novitiate underwater navigators the essentials of diving and subaqueous exploration. Before beginning their journey toward scuba supremacy, students must purchase and complete one of three study kits (book and DVD, multimedia DVD-ROM, or e-learning options) to become intimately acquainted with basic scuba skills, terminology, safety procedures, and underwater traffic laws from the safety of dry land. Courses then kick off with a classroom review covering the diving particulars and practicing on dive computers, before plunging into controlled dives conducted in a nearby heated Olympic-size pool. From the comfort of this climate-controlled concavity, students put their newfound knowledge to practical use, practicing the underwater breathing, hovering, and squid-arm-wrestling techniques that will be essential to mastery of the open water. In total, classroom review and pool dives will require four evening sessions and a half day on the weekend, spaced over the course of two weeks.

Underwater undergraduates then achieve their final certification with open-water dives at Coral Sea, a private lake owned by Coral Key and used exclusively for practice diving and synchronized swim choreography. Completed over two days, the open-water dives allow students to put their newfound watery wisdom to the test to earn their coveted C-card. Scuba certifications are good for life, meaning that newly minted divers are free to go on and conduct their own scuba adventures in any of the world's many undersea sanctuaries, reefs, and schoolyard sinkholes.
