What You'll Get
Until public-transit officials make our dream of commuting to work by rollycoaster a reality, we'll have to settle for the adrenaline rush of traditional pick-me-ups. Percolate perkiness with today's Groupon: for $7, you get $15 worth of café fare and drinks at Daily Grind Café. This deal can be redeemed at both the Albany and Troy locations.
An independent, family-owned-and-operated business, Daily Grind Café supplements the more than 50,000 pounds of fresh-roasted coffee beans it has sold to local java junkies with a menu of homemade soups, salads, and sandwiches. The bold, smooth notes of the house blend ($14/lb.) give percolating palates a BASE-jumping point into more adventurous international flavors, such as the rich, full-bodied rain forest blend ($14/lb.), the bittersweet Danish black and brown ($14/lb.), or the espresso blend ($15/lb.)—which modestly claims to be “the best you ever had.” For a more immediate caffeine infusion, Daily Grind’s friendly baristas will conjure creative coffee concoctions on the spot, be they vanilla-almond lattes or white mochas with blackberry or strawberry syrups.
To make your coffee a part of a complete breakfast, Daily Grind’s morning combos add a much-needed protein punch. The egg sandwich with bacon and cheese comes with a 16 oz. coffee or tea ($5.25), while lunchers looking to get to know their sandwich on a first-name basis can enjoy the popular Reubens. Tuna, turkey, and chicken sandwiches and wraps will keep one hand open for holding your pet falcon ($6.95), and Cohen's pulled pork sandwiches with homemade barbecue sauce provide a delicious way to satisfy one’s piggy-tugging tendencies without violating the toes of unsuspecting strangers ($7.25). The café’s selection of sodas, beers, and wines will give amateur musicians a shot of courage as they warm up for Thursday's open mic from 8 p.m.–11 p.m. The café’s free WiFi will also make sure that you can savor a cup of coffee without missing out on video footage of the latest adorable thing a cat did.
- I go here about 3/5 mornings a week - great coffee! They always mix up what is being brewed for the day, but there are always 3 choices of coffee ready to serve (light, dark, or flavor roast). I usually get a Vanilla-Almond latte (really good combo!). – Jason C. on the Albany location, Yelp
- This place offers you great coffee and so much more. I absolutely love the atmosphere the comfy couches and the out door [sic] seating is perfect. – Megan E. on the Troy location, Yelp

About Daily Grind
Lee and Barrye Cohen have been roasting and brewing fresh beans into caffeinated elixirs since 1976, when they first began expanding horizons with then-unheard-of espresso and cappuccinos. Using the same trusty vintage coffee roaster they used back then, they continue to roast aromatic gourmet beans. They brighten mornings and afternoon slumps with traditional coffee or energize lattes, mochas, and chai with rich espresso. Chefs cook up a menu of updated classics daily with local farm-fresh eggs and housemade sauces, stacking egg sandwiches with andouille sausage and deli sandwiches with pit-baked ham.
On select evenings, melodies and spoken words can be heard emanating from the Troy location, which hosts an open-mic night where local artists play music or slam poetry books onto the floor as guests sip cocktails and wine. The Cohens are proud of their local roots, and give back the loyalty they've received by frequently donating to local charitable causes. Daily Grind also has an online store, which outfits kitchens with loose-leaf teas, cappuccino machines, and gelato machines from brands such as Baratza, Gaggia, and Nemox.
