It was busy in the store due to thanksgiving rush. The clerks could have been a bit friendlier.

About This Deal

Back when the snickerdoodle and the Thin Mint were nothing more than dance crazes, sock-hopping teens secretly wished for tiny candied Frisbees to complement their moves. Wishes do come true with today's Groupon: for $5, you get $10 worth of cakes, cookies, breads, and more at Dewey's Bakery. This Groupon is valid for the Thruway Shopping Center, Harper Hill Commons, and Reynolda Manor locations. This Groupon can also be applied to custom orders.

Dewey's Bakery houses a venerable variety of crispy, crumbly, ooey, and gooey indulgences for the sugar-powered heart. The most popular item among Dewey’s fresh-baked delicacies is the Moravian Sugar Cake ($6.29 for a 12-ounce cake), which pizzazzles yeast-raised dough with a triple threat of cinnamon, butter, and brown sugar before oven rays tan it a luscious shade of beach-ready golden brown. Also hailing from Moravia—the country so delicious that the Czech Republic eventually ate it—is the Moravian cookie ($8.99 for a large tube), lauded for its slim stature and diverse flavors, including ginger spice, key lime, and spiced apple cider. The Grandpa coffee cake’s rich layers of coconut, pecan, and caramel icing give you a far sweeter reason to wake up in the morning than your alarm clock’s “air horn” setting ($6.49 for an 18-ounce cake). And bringing a batch of tea cookies ($4.49 for 12) to your toddler’s next tea party will ensure that some non-imaginary food is available.

Tradition and a commitment to yumminess have maintained the quality of Dewey's pink lemonade cake squares and Moravian lovefeast buns since 1930, the happiest year on record. As time has gallivanted forward, Dewey's has expanded its baked battalion to include savories such as cheese biscuits and cheese straws. Everyone can indulge in three Groupons, so give yourself plenty of ways to spoil your appetite with the fresh, doughy delights at Dewey’s Bakery.

About Dewey's Bakery

When a fire destroyed the original Dewey's Bakery in 1955, it seemed like that might be the end of the Dewey's legacy. The bakery had been a local landmark since 1930, when Dewey G. Wilkerson lifted spirits during the Great Depression with his Moravian cookies and other treats. But then the Winston-Salem community bonded together to keep Dewey's in business, and soon it moved to Thruway Shopping Center, where its flagship location still stands today.

Dewey's Moravian morsels have stood the test of time, too. Today, the bakery's regional edibles range from sugar cakes to Lovefeast buns, whose subtle flavors of nutmeg and lemon rind enliven traditional Moravian Lovefeast ceremonies. In addition to those original, homemade recipes, Dewey's highlights other classic sweets, including pumpkin spice cake pops and pink lemonade cheesecake. The critically lauded bakery sends even more goodies—from cheese biscuits to gluten-free cookies —far and wide.
