Instructors with extensive backgrounds in performance—including film and television appearances—help students hone their belly-dancing skills and exercise their core muscles in an intimate performance space and dance club. At DROM, rockers wail on electric guitars, soul singers belt melodious lyrics, and DJs create thumping electronic beats. A majority of the artists—whether instantly familiar acts such as Wyclef Jean, or international song-smiths, such as the Ivory Coast’s Sekouba and Bolomba Band—celebrate the venue’s mission of celebrating world music. In it’s short six-year history, the stage has seen the likes of Ladytron, a DJ set by Vampire Weekend, and jazz-fusion stylings of Hazmat Modine, not to be confused with Hazmat Jeff, who creeps everyone out around the office. When not hosting musical acts, DROM fills with yucks and catcalls during stand-up shows and sultry burlesque performances.
