What You'll Get
According to the World Food Programme, for every dollar invested in a woman in a developing part of the globe, $0.90 of it will be spent on the woman's family or community. Investing in women leaders in developing countries, therefore, can be an effective way to improve prospects not only for the individual women, but for their families, local communities, and countries as well. Jolkona, partnering with the Seattle International Foundation and iLEAP Center for Critical Service, makes an investment in women by facilitating donations to The Global Professional Exchange Program of Seattle, which trains women from around the globe on how to be active and effective grass-roots leaders that can impact change in their communities.
During a 10-week grass-roots training program, The Global Professional Exchange of Seattle, supported by the Seattle International Foundation, equips women leaders with the skills, professional networks, and global perspectives needed to energize and affect change in their communities. While in Seattle, five sponsored women will stay with local families, participate in community events, and learn about local interactions between government, private business, and civil society. With courses covering technology and communication as well as discussions about women's leadership and organizational management, this leadership training endeavors to send women back to their communities with new tools for leadership and a new network of leaders.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to allow one woman leader to Seattle, where they will attend a 10-week grass-roots training program. If G-Team members raise $500, Jolkona, with a $500 matched donation from The Seattle International Foundation, will be able to support one woman during the first week of the program. Each additional $1,000 raised will fund one more week of the program. The Seattle International Foundation will match all donations up to $25,000. Groupon purchasers will have a chance to win two tickets to the Women in the World Breakfast in November, where the 2011 fellows will be honored.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
All donations will be matched up to $25,000 by The Seattle International Foundation.
